Hewitt only played Chang twice and they were both in 2002. He won both, Chang was far from his prime and i figure he was just playing for enjoyment rather than competition.
Chang's career was supurb for a man who played a very similiar style to Hewitt, he was very much an overachiever which is rare in tennis as there's plenty of underachievers (Safin, Haas, Malisse, Ferrero, Coria i could go on for ages) As a matter of fact they're parralels in nearly everyway except for Hewitt being No.1 and having 1 more Slam title than Michael.
Both were teenage sensations at 17
Both won a slam before the age of 20
Both used a counter punching style and were the quickest player around the court in their prime.
Chang's a standout of the 90s and won more than 30 titles and was a top 10 player all the way through his prime. The guy was in the start of the power tennis era and was not dominated by the bigger, stronger players like others his build and style.
PS Chang's best years were 1996 and 1997. He reached World No.2 in 1996 and made two slam finals IIRC (US Open and Australian Open, lost to Sampras and Becker)
Sorry for the lsight derail Foldee, Tennis is pretty much my favourite sport and i have to talk about it if the opportunity arises
Great info^ On a side note, i got Mats Wilander and Pat Cash today. Hes packaging was soooo poor and as a result both cases were heavily scratched . I think i may have to pop my Paypal Dispute cherry..................what a doofus (like my throwback insult)
That sucks. Raise a dispute, he has a obligation to send so it doesn't get damaged due to his neglect.
You just got the Classic Australian Open 1988 Final in your possession now. Congrats =)
On a somewhat related note, i'd like to see a Rafter card in some capacity from Ace, they have Cash, Wilander, Agassi and other legends. Rafter can't be that hard to acquire?
Ive got an address for mail to Chang somewhere Ill find it, I sent him 3 cards and he signed them all for me.
I wish there was a Lina Krasnoroutskaya signed ball, man I saw her at the Adidas Intl and nearly died! She was drop dead gorgeous, she signed by tennis cards, and some 8X10s. Shes since retired and had kids, boo! She retired in her early 20s. Im sure she was Top 50 at some stage.
