My NRL Dilemma.........

Hi everyone, I need some advice!

At the moment I am torn between which team I should support.

Here is the story.

Back in 1989 at the ripe old age of 9 I started going to Penrith Panthers games as they were and still are my local team.

I went to Brad Fittlers first game, I was at the game where Ben Alexander was the man of the match in reserve grade, got promoted to the bench for First grade and died a few hours later on that night in a car accident. I was there through the Geyer/Cartright/Brandy/Fittler years.

I watched them lose the 1990 Grand Final and triumph in 1991. I watched them fall apart not long after that.

It wasn't until 1995/1996 when Super League happened that I was annoyed at the Panthers for joining super league, so I followed a lot of the Penrith players to the Roosters and have supported them ever since. I've seen them win a Grand Final and lose 2 of them.

The problem is that now im stuck supporting 2 teams.

I really want to choose one team but its a hard decision.

Being the local team, I get to see the panthers play live about 6/7 times a year. For the Roosters, I like their style of play but dont get to many of their games.

I am having a very hard time choosing a team to support!

Anyone have any advice on how I can solve this pressing dilemma?

Im going to the game tomorrow night and I have no idea who I want to win?

Cheers
Matt

Im not that stuck for a team!
=D>

I like the Panthers and seeing as you are from the area and grew up with them its a no brainer. Being a Souths supporter myself i would never see you in the same light again if you were to support the roosters :D

I know the feeling. I grew up and still live near Penrith, I jumped on the bandwagon in the early 90's ( dad was a tigers supporter and I was sort of forced into them) but when super league happened I started going for the Knights then they won in 97 and I have followed them since. I go to most Panthers games and it would be so much easier to follow the local team, but the Panthers will now always be my "2nd team".

Go the Panthers mate, they are a great team and I reckon they have a few great years ahead of them yet.

Panthers all the way - only support Roosters if Anasta, Carney and Kenny-Dowall leave - you know what I mean being A Tigers supporter.

I have been a bit of a wandering fan over the past 35 years. I remember being a St George fan when I was very young because Dad and Pop were fans. Then jumped teams a few times until now where I am a Titans fan and will be for the rest of my life.

Penrith have moved on from Superleague. They have re-established themselves and now have alot of great young players in Michael Gordon & Sandor Earl much like the Fittlers and Alexanders of the late 80s - 90s. Which team brings back the greatest memories of Footy for you... Go with your heart.

You can take the man out from the Panthers (area) but you'll never take the Panther out of the man!!!
It's Panthers all the way for you IMO

Support the Panthers, the Rorters are a souless club, the rape and pillage all the young talent from all the clubs by offering ridiculous money to young players, it is very well known that, a few years back the literally bought the whole Australian Schoolboy side last year the raided the Dragons juniors and pinched one of our best they offer massive contracts to 16-18yo which don't count towards the salary cap....GO THE PANTHERS, they just need better management to be a real force, even though they finished 2nd this year, they have heaps of improvement in them...

i am with digeze on this one, over time you will follow 1 team. if you draw a line now and the team you choose starts to fail then you will kicking your self as to why you chose that team....but.... if you let time and history decide and let it bring out the passion for which ever team you end up following you will be a much happier supporter in the long term.

i was a dragons supporter as young kid for no real reason, i just liked dragons.....then my cousin who played a few grades higher than my self got given a chance with the bears in the late 70's we went into sydney to see him play when he was given the call up, he was playing reserve grade this particular day and after his game we watched the 1st grades go round eels v bears...eels won 48 to 17 and i was totally blown away by the eels (my cousin also supported the eels) after the game he took me to the sheds and as 13yr old i was in like footy heaven there was price, cronin, murray was still there and stirling was still a rookie, at this point and they were singing with tinnies in hand and they welcomed me in without a problem i even handed geoff gerard a KB (it was gold can) and mate i have been an eels supporter ever since all because they let me in and i had the best couple of hours in my rugby league supporters life.......and with your dilema i think you will have to wait to see where your passion lays... sorry for the dribble on but i hope it helps.

cheers Dave

Matt, your stories point to panthers. As eels#1 points out- those good times carry a supporter through the hard times and make that future premiership that more special. Those panther stories are priceless. Panthers

David come back from the dark side all is forgiven lol
