i know this has nothing to do with card collecting or anything that is a breaking news story but i have had a fun interesting weekend with my 12 year old daughter who was picked in the north central youth development hockey team as the goal keeper.
after 8 weeks of travelling from tallangatta in country victoria to shepparton about a 2 hour drive each way every weekend for training, this weekend was there big carnival of teams from all over victoria, they were meant to play 4 games this weekend
they won there first game 2-0,also won there second game 2-0 then they where waiting on the side lines to play there 3 game when one of the players who just finished playing fainted and the organizers decide to cancell the rest of the carnival because of the heat
even though they were the only undefeated team on the day they were not awarded the championship
my daughter and the rest of her team were very upset about this decision especially since they have trained very hard for this day
anyway i am so proud of my girl i wanted people to know so i thought i would share this with all of you
below i will post some pictures of her the first one is us dressed to go to dinner last night and the next two are of her dressed in her goalie gear who can believe it is the same girl
i am a very proud dad
thanks for reading tony :smt060

LOL

ahh a proud dad :-D

My GF is a hockey player and I actually understand the game enough now that they asked me to coach at one time too LMAO. I don't know about that though.

Does she bang that stick against her pads and holler all game like most goalies or is she quiet?? I'm guessing Daddy's girl turns into a monster like most goalies do once ALL those pads are on LOL

Congrats on the selection. Its a pretty tough sport to crack in this country and doesn't get the respect or rewards it deserves. Got to see the Mens and womens at the Comm games in the heat too. At least you had a wet pitch and not sand based as that would of been nasty in this heat. Still they should of got the trophy I rekon too!

TW's (Tighty Whiteys as she is known here) plays for St Kilda here in Melb and played for Tas in the nationals etc in the past. She is a bloody quick wing :-D

Nice post Tony and good luck for her in the future. Maybe a Hockeyroo in the making??

Ohhh and I feel for you Dad's taxi ;-)

thanks for that chad
yes she does turn into a monster when she is all padded up
she has got this aggressive as we're from a small town and ther is no girls team so she she plays against the boys and a few of them are scared of her as she has taken them out when they're trying to score against her but off the feild she is a real girly girl :smt061

Congrats mate, sounds like it was a rewarding day anyway for you and your family! Ah, I remember the days of minkey, followed by graduate hockey then onto the real deal including indoor! I used to a speed demon with the stick, but now I couldn't play to save my life! If I ever had to bend down like that again I'd be in a wheel chair for sure!

Hooray for hockey!

great to see you are a proud Dad Tony, your daughter sounds like she must have some talent if she is being picked in a development team. I can understand why the carnival was called off, cause it was bloody hot in Victoria this past weekend.

bloody hot in Victoria this past weekend

Whats going on! The worlds turned upside down since I got back from Bali! Hot in Vic, freezing off the plane in Perth! You don't have any beaches, ours are being wasted by the cool weather!?! ;)

Hooray for hockey!

That's a bummer for your daughter's team mate. Good to see another goalie. I used to play there myself until I broke my collar bone twice and had an operation to insert a plate and some screws. Good to hear she's aggressive with the pads on too=D>

That's great, it really is, well done Tony and Tony's Daughter.

Congrats on the great results, despite no gold, you both know who the winners were!

Thanks for sharing.

You don't have any beaches

What world are you from??

Thought as much Tony, every keep seems to be the same

The whole thing should of been called off no matter how disapointing that would of been. Out in the sun in this heat when its not for sheep stations is just nuts and not on especially for kids too.

Great job Tony... and your daughter too, I guess.

You know what, at Xmas in years to come, I bet being ripped off for the championship becomes a much better story than winning it actually would have. It's funny, things like that. Being a fatherof three girls myself, I've often found that the things that annoy you the most at the time often make for the best stories when you sit around and reminisce down the track.

Glad she gave you something to be proud of on the day, though I am sure win, lose or draw, that you would've been proud regardless.

Cheers

I dont profess to know anything about hockey although i did give it a go as part of my uni course, but your daughter must be made of the right stuff considering the amount of padding she wears whilst in the sun. Unlucky about the trophy but bet your still proud as punch!

good on ya for being so proud tony, can i suggest one thing though, its not a good idea to put pics of your daughter on the net, even great places like this one as anyone can find them. sorry not trying to spoil anything but unfortunately its the day and age we liven in.

Nice one Tony, your daughter sounds like a champ =D>

Hockey never agreed with me, the whole no swinging the stick above shoulder height limited my Happy Gilmore-esque drives. Plus I can't run with shin pads on.

Congrats for your daughter, Tony. Used to play hockey myself, spent a few years in goals and finished up as a full-back. Trained with state squad, and was one of the top players, but excluded from the team due to politics (firstly with the club I was playing for - also affected 2/3 other guys; and my dad & his position within the association), so I quit to play basketball after 2 years of being snubbed.

Great game though. Got to meet the 84 Men's Olympic team. Massive highlight at the time for a 10yr old, and should still have an auto'd stick around the house somewhere.
