My eBay rant - Can't believe the hypocrisy!

Im going to try keep this short, even though I could go on and on about how hypocrytical eBay are being.

After one hour on the phone with eBay about this, I still got no where. Anyone else had this issue?

Long story short; I had a few bad eggs internationally say they never got their cards, so paypal auto refunds them, right?.

I called paypal and ebay and they both instructed me to only send internationally registered mail from now on. So I did.

Then two buyers gave me only 3 stars for postage costs. (keep in mind they gave 5 stars for every other category)

That's now resulted in eBay deeming me a "risky seller" and now only let me list 10 items per month.

hmmmmm. Im a ten year ebay member with a 661 rating at 100% feedback and I'm a risk???

Then second to that when someone pays me now, i have to wait 21 days before paypal will clear funds

All because I took THEIR direct advice and raised postage price which is the ONLY category I got less than 5 stars for!!!!!

Both ebay and paypal refuse to change the status either which makes me furious... They also will not remove those two gradings, which would restore me back to 100% on their seller scale thingy.

As I explained to them, my postage rates are very detailed in my listing. It even says "if you don't like the shipping costs, please don't bid" Second to that, when they receive an invoice, they pay it, so it cant be that high????

They now suggest me have FREE postage.

Yeh sure! Why don't I sell a card for 99c, then stroll to the PO and pay $3 postage. Then add a bubble envelope and top loader to that, not to mention they then take out their fees...

Idiots!

rant over.

Someone please make me feel better by saying they have had similar issues

p.s. Then yesterday, a trusted OZCT member who has bought from my eBay auctions before, messaged me to say that Paypal had refunded his money for cards he bought from me a month ago because I "did not complete forms" etc etc....

WTF is that about now????

I can't wait for that conversation I have with them.

My first question will be

"So you refunded my money to the seller, did you refund the fees you charged me for that transaction?"

What the F? That is rediculous Coopz.
I hate feeBay already and the way they have treated you is harsh man.

I just sold a heap of stuff on the bay and I too did not know about the 21 day hold on paid funds from those sales, because I may not have met ebays seller requirements.
It sort of alludes to the notion that if I provide tracking numbers that my funds may be available sooner?
Is that really the case?

I've sold on feebay before, so why this bollocks now?

Perhaps it is because I've sold on feebay.com instead of feebay.com.au?

MAYHEM, my understanding is that recently they changed from a straight positive feedback plus a comment style, to now having a 5 star rating for 4-5 different categories which a buyer selects after receiving the goods.

Basically if your rating falls below 4.9 out of 5 for ANY of those categories, they deem you a "risky seller"

It doesn't matter that I have had over 100 5 star ratings for everything else. those 2x 3 and 4 star ratings, brought me into that territory.

You've got to kidding, right?

You may be right about tracking.

but the difference in price for international registered and international express with tracking is $21-$55

To have coverage as a seller on Ebay you have to send the item with tracking. Tracking costs between $18.25-20.10 for full tracking (Pack and Track). I charge the exact amount it costs me for shipping so I'm covered by Paypal (according to their policies) and now I have a rating of 4.3/5.0 for shipping costs. Someone please explain what to do???

From the Australia Post site: Letters from Australia to United States

Registered Post International with Delivery Confirmation: $18.25 (but doesn't offer Tracking)
Pack and Track International (with full Tracking): $20.10

How does everyone else ship to the US without risking a Paypal claim?? Please, I'd like to hear how everyone's shipping to the US without their Shipping Cost rating remaining at 5.0/5.0. 12 years as an Ebay seller, over 600+ feedback at 100%.....please tell me how I should be shipping.

I refuse to sell on Ebay man, just absolutely refuse.
I honestly just dont have the time and or patience to deal with all the hassles and scammers

this site has like nearly 70,000 feeback and only 170 odd negatives

I feel at the moment we have weeded out the undesirables and just about all members are seemingly trustworthy.

Im still happy to use paypal, but combine it with Ebay and its just problem after problem after problem.

If i cant sell my cards here i pretty much just give them away man.

I have noticed BO has now gone with an auction type forum, might be one to keep a close eye on.

Imagine if OZcard did that......could go alright. boycott Ebay

(and yes im going to report my own post so they can see it)

Sounds pretty harsh to use that sort of customer rating as an indication on how risky a seller is. Based on what you are saying, any score that is below 4.8 will trigger the 21 days hold on funds. That means it only takes 1 in 5 to give a score of 4 to trigger that rule. It is quite unrealistic because everyone has different definitions of what a 4 means.

I think eBay/PayPal is just coming with excuses to hold on to people's money longer so they can earn interest on that money. But the marketing team should know that this will piss sellers off and indirectly affect the total number of auctions, hence the fees they collect. So I am not entirely sure they are trying to achieve.

But it doesn't seem to affect any sales made on the Australian site.

Australia post suggest Click and Send is the way to go to cover sellers through paypal.

From what I understand, Most other overseas tracking is through Australia post until it reaches the US and then tracking is through another company that they use until its final destination. Not 100% sure who that is but it is worth contacting Auspost to find out.

Ebay can shove it ...got done a few years ago by a scammer and even tho i emptied my paypal account they still payed him and claim i owe them hundreds..
The buyer refused registered...even showed them the email...they cared not !!
Will never use them again

I've never used use feebay ever since they introduced the 21-day thing - when I sell something it more often than not means I need the $$$, so waiting 21 days for it isn't an option...... and even if I qualify not to have to wait that long, I really can't be bothered trying to work out if I qualify for that as their rules are far too complex and knowing it can change at the drop of a hat it's all just too much of a hassle.

Its all about money. Ebay is in bed with Australia Post and the United States Post Office. Paypal is the middle man and when its all said and done, everyone is making tons of money. Its called a sub economy which is helping Australia Post be very profitable and the USPO almost recover from the major bankruptcy that almost filed. With less Junk mail being sent because of Email marketing, they are now becoming service oriented operation and ebay is right in the middle. Smiling from ear to ear sitting in Switzerland counting their millions of dollars a day collections and sharing it with no one.

Capitalism at its best, consumerism at its best, sellers being pounded at its worst.

Though this board gets $$$ for every time you click a link to feebay, so we are all caught in a catch-22.

So there you go, no answer to be found as its all about the money.
