Just a few pickups from November, December and January. And obviously I don't now how to re-size Photobucket pics.

GOTGMRR.jpg

Yet another Michael Ray Richardson auto... I guess I've started collecting lol. And yes, his auto always looks like that.

DavidThompsonNotableNicknames.jpg

and another David Thompson auto. I'd just re-read Loose Balls by Terry Pluto when I saw this card and just had to have it. Such a shame his career unfolded the way it did; I literally can't express what the basketball world missed.

ManuteBolAuto.jpg

ShawnBradleyAuto.jpg

A pair of very tall 76ers centres... Shawn Bradley and the late Manute Bol. As a guy who loves History, Manute Bol's most iconic effort was in his native Africa, where the creation of the new state of South Sudan was in no small part to his efforts.

SidneyMoncrief.jpg

An auto of Sidney Moncrief, the ultimate all-round guy. Blew out his knee and ended up a shell of his former self before he was 30. In his peak, he was 20-5-5 guy who was a 5-time All-NBA and All-Defensive team member and two time DPOY, the smallest guy (with Alvin Robertson) to win the award.

Wall.jpg

Grabbed this sick patch from an OzCards member. I love Wall; its a shame that he is in basketball purgatory in Washington.

TwoMalonesPatch50.jpg

A pair of Malones... I got this ages ago, but I've never shared it.

Bowman32.jpg

Bowman4.jpg

A pair of Bowman's for my set chase; the top guy is Rochester's Red Holzman and the bottom guy is Indianapolis Jet Fred Lewis. Holzman is better for his time in another part of New York State, leading the Knicks to their two titles and was named as one of the 10 Greatest NBA Coaches in 1996. As for Fred Lewis, he played 95 games for three teams (None of which exist in that way today; both Baltimore and Indianapolis folded and the Philadelphia Warriors moved west) over 2 years and doesn't even have a Wikipedia page.

Now for the Mikans...

I'll start with a pair of more oddball Mikans

1986-1987 DePaul University Playing Cards - Hearts 5
I finally bit the bullet and grabbed this off Beckett's Marketplace after two years of never seeing it elsewhere.

56.jpg

2001-2002 Lakers American Express
Given out at a Minnesota-LA Lakers game in April 2002. Another I've not been able to grab, so I had to grab it off Beckett's Marketplace.

Now for the Panini Mikans
151.jpg

2010-2011 Panini Limited Trios Spotlight Gold /24
Another relatively low numbered card ticked off my list. Such an iconic threesome...

160.jpg

2010-2011 Panini Playoff National Treasures All-Decade Materials /25

163.jpg

2010-2011 Panini Playoff National Treasures All-NBA Materials /25
Managed to pick up these two as a pair on eBay from a seller in Arizona. Very welcome additions as I missed out on both of these cards when they first came out and nearly missed again because I managed to smash my iPhone at work. Luckily I still won, but my heart was in my mouth.

2011 Upper Deck All Time Greats Legacy Dual Book Card Autographs: Bill Russell & George Mikan /1
This bad boy is actually an early anniversary gift from my girlfriend; she banned from my eBay account for a week whilst she won it... and then didn't 'hide' once she let me back on.

Thanks for looking guys...

Don't know much about David Thompson except he could really dunk - thus the nickname, great inscription. Love the dual Bol / Bradley auto both in 76ers uniforms where hey arguably played their best ball, also liek Bradley jotting down '7'6' as well - nice touch! Sidney Moncrief is a very under-rated player for what he achieved - led the Bucks in sweeping the Celtics in the playoffs for the first time in Celtic franchise history in 1982 from memory. Bowman set chase? Wow! Lewis looks to be in good nick but the Holzman has seen better days - but one of the pricier Bowmans to grab I would imagine!

....almost forgot, Mikan / Russell! Fantastic anniversary present, surprised she knows that much about the hobby! Guess it allows her to track what you spend! heh heh

WOW!!!!! The Mikan/Russell is sick!
Thanks Jack again for the Wall. Its a real beauty.

The Mikan-Russell is first Russell auto too.

wow, noble nicknames is my favourite. Great nickname too.

He was the childhood hero of another notable dunker and ABA guys rate him the equal of Dr J dunking wise... and he was 4 inches shorter.

And his block of Walton in the NCAA

Sweet Pickups Man! Those Patches and Auto are just Mad!

Like John Wall!:worthy:

Thanks Harsha. I grabbed that Wall patch from KingJack, so I have him to thank for it.

Thompson had a career average of 25ppg at 26 and was out of the league by the time he was 29.

Moncrief was an amazing all-round who just makes his team better; he averaged 20-5-5 in his peak as I mentioned yet he was an intangibles guy too. Amazing athlete who could guard anyone until he blew out his knee.

The Holzman is in pretty ordinary shape (the size and clarity of my scanner leaves nothing to the imagination) but I got it cheap. You're right about it being a pricey Bowman; according to Beckett, the 2nd most expensive card in the set behind the Mikan RC, although its 1/10th of the price of the Mikan.

Now for the Russell/Mikan... My girlfriend doesn't know much about the hobby but she understands the whole 1/1 concept and knows that Russell was an amazing player. She keeps an eye on what I spend on my Mikan's but I also keep an eye what she spends on shoes and her saxophone collection, and believe me, I'm doing nothing she isn't ;)

Although I kinda hate post-2010 UD stuff that's an awesome booklet for your PC. Pretty sure I saw a Mikan RC on ebay recently, have you got that one yet?

thats one hell of a mailday, i enjoyed the history lesson too :D
I love the history nearly as much as the cards themselves; I was the nerdy kid who read all the players stats and draft history on the back of the cards.

No Mikan RC yet. There is a couple on eBay at the moment, ranging from a $1000 SGC 10 (PSA 1) to a $13,000 PSA 7.

I'm a little undecided RE the Russell-Mikan booklet; I love that its a dual auto of two of my favourite players and that its a 1/1, but the booklet aspect is a thorn in my side. It would be my favourite card if it wasn't a booklet.

Superb mailday Matt, that Mikan/Russell 1/1 is just a beauty!

Love the Skywalker too - thanks for sharing all that quality.

nice cards bro!! damn i need that malone and malone for my set chase.. lol.. damn where have i been for past few months?
