David Hussey is basically blacklisted and out of favour with selectors because of his supposed behaviour and comments he made.
As for the Ashes, look at it this way...if we lose in England we get another crack at the Ashes a couple of months later in Australia. The English team is really not that good at the moment anyway, i reckon the Aussies will have a good crack at it. Just need to fix a few problems with the batting....and we've got quite a few decent quicks available once Cummins and Pattinson return. Along with Siddle, Johnson, Starc and Bird who are all bowling well lately.
But the bulk of their team were considered far superior.
Remember, Border had been building this team since 1986.
S Waugh, Geoff Marsh and Merv Hughes were young, but had a couple of years under their belts. Mark Taylor, Ian Healy were relatively new to the team still. David Boon and Dean Jones would be the experienced bats with Border, but weren't yet the batting legends they became by the end of their careers.
Alderman and Lawson would be considered experienced, decent bowlers but hardly world beaters...though Alderman would go on to have a massive 1989 campaign.
Of course Greg Campbell was there, and controversially not Mike Whitney. Trevor Hohns the spinner.
England would have been licking their lips. At home. Holding the Ashes. The nucleus around Gower, Gooch, Gatting, Botham. Few, if any, even in Australia, predicted an Aussie Ashes series win or even the dominance shown. Easy to think of Taylor, Healy and Waugh as legends now, but it wasn't seen like this prior to 1989 Ashes tour, here or there.
England only took 67 wickets in 6 Tests (potentially 120 wickets available).
still think that the current england bowling lineup would have the 1989 team for breakfast, the current line up would not be struggling to take 67 wickets imo. also, geoff marsh was 30 on the 1989 tour, not really a youngster. and jones had more than shown his colours by that tour with his innings in india plus his phenomenal january in 1987 in the one day series. so along with border and boon, our batting lineup was far seasoned than our current minus hussey. there are just still too many variables, indecision and injuries in both the bowling attack and batting lineup for my liking, especially 5 and a half months out from the first test. hate to back against the aussies too but experience is what we need on this tour and we just lost a huge chunk with Huss retiring. If everyone doesn't get serious now they will have the unenviable record of 3 ashes losses in a row. if we start seeing some consistency from some others besides clarke in the batting, we could well be a big a chance, and fingers crossed for some injury free months from our bowlers
