Michael Hurley Essendon Rising Star was arrested about 5:30am this morning after allegedly kicking and punching a taxi driver after getting out and buy food from Hungry Jack's after being picked up from a Melbourne night-club.
Essendon's rising star Michael Hurley has been quizzed by police after allegedly bashing a taxi driver in Melbourne early this morning.
A spokeswoman for Victoria police confirmed a 19-year-old Rosanna man was questioned over an assault following a disputed cab fare in Hoddle St, Richmond, about 5.30am today.
The taxi driver was allegedly kicked and punched but only suffered minor injuries and was not taken to hospital.
Hurley left a police station in Fitzroy just before midday.
Speaking on Melbourne radio, AFL chief Andrew Demetriou confirmed the bulky forward was interviewed by police.
"Essendon has been proactive in informing us that Michael Hurley has been involved in an incident in the early hours of this morning," he told 3AW.
The radio station reported Hurley was involved in a drunken dispute with an Indian taxi driver.
Essendon issued a brief statement following the reports.
"Essendon can confirm that one if its players was involved in an incident in the early hours of this morning," the club said.
"The club is investigating the facts of the matter and will make further comment later today."
poor form by hurley, pretty weak picking on a poor cabbie. even first year players arnt short of a dollar these days, what was he worried about? why would you bother when the taxi fair would have been what, $100 at most. was he expecting only $80 and didnt want to pay the extra $20
No excuse for treating taxi Drivers like this......they are providing a service to the community. There is enough of a problem with them being bashed without AFL players doing it......DISGRACEFULL!
It's just disgraceful to see the way that professional athletes just think that they can basically go do as they see fit and that children look up to these people. They should be behave in the right manner I mean go ahead and have a few but don't go stupid. Look at Fevola in one night he has put his whole career in jeopardy, was fined $10,000 and probally will never work with Channel 9 again. Extremly Dissapointing
this reminds me a little of last year after the hawks won the grannie Brett Renouf got smashed with a mate and jumped on cars roofs on his way home one night. but i think this is worse coz hurley could be a gun, renouf on the other hand is a chook
