Southern Stars champ Meg Lanning has signed with Channel 9 for the upcoming season. She will start with commentary during the One Day Domestic competition - which this year is called the Matador BBQ's One Day Cup!! - and if all goes well will be involved in international T20 commentary as well.

Good luck to her, hope she nails it!

Some people have already threatened to "boycott" channel 9 over the decision to hire her, which gives you an insight into the intelligence of some of the halfwits we share air with!

It's time for Ch 9 to reinvigorate its commentary anyway.

Lawry and Benaud should be put out to pasture permanently and I'd say the same for Chappelli - he just seems to tell long-winded anecdotes from his playing days that don't seem to go anywhere and he suddenly realises he's rambling and it all kind of ends. It's how my nan was in the first stages of Alzheimer's.

The other thing is, please, go back to two in the box. Three in the box and you end up with yap. And with class clowns in Healy, Slater and Taylor all vying for the crown of chief clown, it sometimes grates IMO.

If Ch 9 was smart they'd refresh the commentary box AND their NRL coverage. Rabs is too old and losing it, Gould has massive conflicts of interest and the gibberers - Johns, Fittler and Walters as well as Lockyer and Lewis - who were all fantastic players all seem particularly dull and cliched. Fittler is the only one I'd keep. At least he knows he is on a good wicket there and is the 'colour' with his banter. The rest are just probably earning their top ups from their playing days. Too many in the box, too many on the sidelines. Keep Sterlo and get back Voss. But that won't happen. And is it any wonder the 2nd game on Friday in Sydney is dropped in rations when Ray Hadley is the commentator? I'd like a red button option for both cricket and RL - commentary or none (merely the ref, crowd sounds and ambient playing noise).
