Pakistan captain named in Test fix claims | Herald Sun

A BRITISH newspaper story names Pakistan captain Salman Butt as the ringleader of a group of players who have been paid to fix the fourth Test against England being played at Lord's

The News of the World story also claims that bowlers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal are involved.

British police have already arrested a man over the claims.

"Following information received from the News of the World, we have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud bookmakers,'' said a spokesman for London's Metropolitan Police.

News of the World, Britain's biggest-selling newspaper, alleged that two Pakistan bowlers delivered three blatant no-balls to order.

This sort of thing makes me sick in the stomach

It ain't the bowlers who are playing crap for the Paki's. Amir has been destroying the poms - it doesn't make sense....u have to consider it's the daily mail - a crap paper...

Wow - that is amazing!!! I guess I just didn't think they'd be that awful. This is unbelievable - there'll be **** flying over this......

Would explain Yousuf's dismissal at the end.

I still reckon they threw the game that Aust came back from the dead from last summer - the game Akmal dropped 4 catches and they all hit catches to get themselves out chasing a small total....some of those dismissals were VERY fishy.

Now I have seen all this BS I am almost certain they threw it, they are a bunch of corrupt good for nothing slime buckets!
F&*# them off ICC, we don't want or need them! Man it makes me ANGRY!

I remember that last day of the Sydney test. Thought the morning session was just poor captaincy, but that the batting was very suspicious.

The number of slogged catches to the outfield was like watching a baseball match

And if you've ever played cricket the best way to get yourself out is caught - leaving straight ones looks a bit fishy right. Don't get me wrong the aussies played well that day but as a neutral I thought that the paki's left with a lot of money in their pockets....

It's very easy to think u played awesome when the other team is giving it away.
NZ stuffed the pakis in an ODI in 94 by 8 wickets. They'd been thrashing us - then all of a sudden they bowled wides galore and were all out for 160 which we chased down with ease.....about 3 or 4 years later several of them got pinged for it. As a kiwi fan I thought we were awesome that day!!!

Nah they are all friggin crooks!, F*(%d if I will EVER watch them in ANY match again, I am SICK of the corrup &*^%ers!

What a blow for test cricket that it doesn't need - Disgusting:mad: I too was calling a fix for the Sydney test, that morning was great captaincy for a fix, push everyone out to the boundary and drop hussey how many times!!! They (Pakistan team) should serve a ban of a few years at least for this disgrace, as it was not just one player...

I agree! F*(^& them off!

It is a shame that this has occurred as it will now only spark debate about how much of this is happening in world cricket. Australia from memory have not had there issues about this either, I imagine that there might be more to this story than we know.

A sad day for sportsmanship:yellow:.
What is the feeling like over in the UK Alex?
At least there will be spirited competition with the Ashes coz no one wants to throw them

regards Russell:thumbsup:

and im sure uve all seen/heard the results from the current match.... pommies were 7/102 an made 446. pakistan all out for 74 than 147 following on.

at the press conference... (snippet from cricinfo live scorecard)

Andrew Miller is currently at the Pakistan press conference and here is the latest: Salman Butt has been asked straight up, did Pakistan deliberately lose the Sydney Test. He did not answer, while Yawar Saeed changed the subject. Are you going to resign Butt is asked? "Why?" Salman replies.

so sad really

hi Russell and everyone else
is been a bit of a mixed bag of feelings, from disbelief, anger and the whole not again feeling.
i went out this morning and picked up News of the World after breakfast and it made for very interesting reading. The Guy who was running it all 'the London based fixer Mazhar Majeed' said he has close ties with 6 or 7 players, including mohammed asif, mohammed amer, salman butt and kamran akmal and a few others. He boasts to having previously fixed the sydney test you guys have all ready bought up as well as a recent Asia Cup match against Sri Lanka. The sydney test apparently made him £830k!! He also said he had arranged it that the Pakistan one day team would loose 2 games against us later this summer!

It all looks very suss, the no balls that the bowlers did, especially Amer were huge. It just such a pity as he looked a great young player. Fastest bowler in world cricket to 50test wickets in terms of age, still only 18!. Looks life a life ban now.

The actual games results were not in question, but it leaves such a sour taste. Broad and Trott batted superbly with their partnership but both have said they dont feel that great about it now.

The whole series was strange as ball dominated all 4 tests really.
before the start of todays play the pakistan team didnt warm up or even go onto the outfield at all and after the shambles of 4 years ago at the oval, its more a sense of 'not again'.

I think the anger comes from both the players feeling cheated and also the ECB feeling hacked off with initially feeling sorry for the pakistan board and therefore organising the neutral tests, only for the players to do this out of greed and to make a fast buck. Giles Clarke the ECB chairman presented Mohammed Amer with his man of the series award for the Pakistan team but just refused to look at him and didnt shake his hand. There were boos for the pakistan players Amer and Asif when they went out to bat.

they announced later today that Butt, Amer and asif have all had their phones seized by the police as well as this guy Majeed being arrested last night. He has said that his players have off shore bank accounts where all this money has been sent. I think at the minute its still a case of wait and see what else comes out.

not the best build up for the ashes!
