With some idle time on my hands and plenty of trade bait on my hands after purchasing a few lots I thought I'd scan up some cards. With the Summer League fresh in my mind I thought I'd scan up some rookies and scrubs starting with the forwards and centres. Will post up another thread with the guards of Summer League notoriety...

There are no major hits in here but look out for my next few maildays because they'll be dropping some pretty sweet cardboard...

Starting out real slow....and ending pretty slow too I might add!

Everybody's favourite 'hit' from Leaf and Retro - Olek Czyz. He's not actually a bad player, doesn't demand a lot of the ball and is efficient inside the arc in terms of shooting and getting to the charity stripe. Bit of a tweener who was a face up PF in college but lacks the quickness, handle and range to get it done at the next level as a SF. Will be a mainstay Euro pro.

Jamychal Greeen. Athleticism and a wingspan off the charts and real pogo stick. i.e. a beanpole who can really jump! He can throw down some nasty putbacks and equally adept at throwing some shots back too. Seems to be a bit of a 'headcase' whose career went backwards after being a consensus first rounder. Offensive game is raw and lacks strength and skill in terms of playing in the low post.

Robbie Hummel. 5 year college guy who basically lost a ton of quickness and athleticism after tearing his ACL (which they thought I did a couple years ago). Decent shooter in college with a good basktball IQ. Takes care of the ball and plays within the system but definitely a lot more athletic guys with more upside on the NBA radar.

Darius Miller. Consumate team player who doesn't really have an outstanding go to skillset. Plays to his limitations but did well to improve year to year. Bit of a gym rat - gotta love those sort of ballers.

Miles Plumlee is the classic blue collar grinder. Hits the boards, plays D and blocks the odd shot or two. About all you can ask from a guy who is basically is a bit of a 'stiff' by NBA standards.

Justin Hamilton - one of the guys on Skip's watchlist. Can score on the low block, has solid range and knows how to excel in the P&R. Bit of an underwhelming rebounder and not much of an interior presence defensively but probably more to do with effort and hustle than anything else. SPA have some seriously ugly cards....

Quincy Acy is a guy who feeds on being active and capitalising on garbage points around the rim - a scrapper. Bit undersized, lacks a bit of strength and all things considered is a bit of an offensive liability. Very impressive All Star calibre Beard.

Mike Muscala. Very gaudy college stats. Can keep his man honest defensively with his back to basket game. Signature glass cleaner and an above average shot blocker but needs to bulk up a bit more if he doesn't want to get pushed around in the paint. Gold version looks a heap nicer.

Gustavo Ayon. Double double guy if given minutes. Doesn't do a hell of a lot wrong, not a shot blocker but an above average passing big man who can get up and down the court. Skip's money says he'll end up on the Spurs next year....versatile big, close to the Mexican border and another International player for what is the United Nations of basketball!

Kyle O'Quinn. An absolute Bull! Man sized game in the low post and blocks and boards with the best of them. True throwback type Centre in what is a crowded Magic frontcourt. Go you Raging Bull!

Trey Thompkins - an inside / outside scoring threat who never found his shot in the NBA. Lacks both ahtleticism and strength. Keeps getting a second shot for some reason! ...and what was going on in his photo shoot for this card?!

Chris Singleton - the latest Pacer. Tweener forward with range out to 3 point land. Athleticism in spades but ironically is a very average finisher around the rim. Has no handle on the ball but great quickness and defensive capabilities. Best case scenario he's a poor man's Bruce Bowen 3 & D type of guy who's good in transition.

Tyler Honeycutt - one guy I like seeing play because he has athelticism to spare and plays above the rim. He can finish and create the most spectacular of plays. Not the most efficient player who should probably put away the 3 ball and work more on his handle. Hope he finds his chance in the NBA - he's a Top Ten play in waiting!

Festus Ezeli - Run, Festus, run! Athletic big with a good motor who garnered minutes through his ability to keep pace with the run n gun Warriors. Decent defender who can finish around the rim.

Tyler Zeller is a nice addition for the Celtics. Gives them a nice three headed monster at Centre. Will never be a star nor possess the offensive game of Olynyk or the shot blocking abilities of Faverani but can play the Pick n Roll / Pop game with all those Celtic guards who can't shoot!

Andrew Nicholson is one guy with zero hobby love. His offensive skill set is impressive and has range on his shot as well as a nose for the offensive glass. Unfortunately, he's a bit of a one way player as his lack of natural athletic ability and slow feet put him at a disadvantage on the defensive end.

Andre Roberson is a PF in a SFs body. Good rebounder and defender but a bit of an offensive train wreck. You have to wonder what's going on in the OKC scouting reports. Didn't they just draft his clone in Josh Huestis?!

Myers Leonard for me has really drawn a short straw. First they rought in R Lopez and now Kaman as a vote of no confidence. He probably isn't too far behind either of those guys and has way more upside. Probably just not as aggressive as he needs to be on the boards.... He warrants a spot on my hypothetical expansion team.

Alex Len - a mystery of an enigma wrapped inside a confusing conundrum. For all the basketball hes played he's earning about a $1m a minute! If he can't beat out Plumlee for some minutes as the #5 pick then soemthing doesn't add up.... Pretty sure they could use Nerlens in PHX right about now!

Mirza Teletovic seems to have carved out a niche for himself. Isn't shy of pulling the trigger but all I seem to remember is his 3 consecutive airballs....wtf?!

Royce White was my favourite college prospect because he could do a bit of everything....except get on a plane! Such a waste of talent...

Ryan Kelly is a classic finesse stretch 4 with 3 point range and a good feel for making the right pass. Not exactly a banger underneath though... He's like a soft Pau Gasol?! Oooh harsh!

John Henson is slight in frame but a big presence on D. Definitely part of the SWAT team in Milwaukee. Can absolutely motor up and down the court.

Tobias Harris just keeps getting better, not much range on his shot but still finds ways to score and contribute on the boards. One of the young guys the Bucks should have kept!

Robert Sacre, not great on offense, alright on defense and allergic to glass. Yes, he started for the renowned Lakers. Just had to have a look at Immaculate...very nice cards!

Lucas Nogueira makes Shawn Bradley look fat but has a massive wingspan which he uses to finish off anything around the rim and block shots. Will turn a few heads when given his chance in Toronto. Tends to lose focus at times so given his gangly nature will draw comparisons to Javaaaaaale McGee! #Shaqtin

Jae Crowder attended two junior colleges before landing at Marquette and having an outstanding senior season. He's all run and hustle and one of those guys who gets every ounce out of his abilities. Takes care of the ball but can't create his own shot. Played 2 D League games and averaged 22+ppg, 16rpg, 10apg, 3.5spg and 2bpg!

Derrick Williams, world class talent and was tipped to win ROY ahead of Kyrie by many pundits before the draft. Just needs to make up his mind if he wants to play SF or PF. Make or break year for this prodigious talent on a confused Kings forward rotation.

Kelly Olynyk ledas the league for the number of Ys in his surname. Finesee bigman with a nice soft touch around the rim and a big bag of tricks. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather my big man throw it down hard rather than finger roll it in. Someone who protects the paint instead of his split ends!

Marcus Morris finally hit his stride after a disastrous rookie campaign in Houston and teaming up with his bro in Phx. Has 3 point range and can also score with his back to the basket. Underwhelming rebounder. Gotta love these silos though!

Chandler Parsons cashed in for his big pay day with the Mavs, not bad for the #38 pick a few yers ago who was considered a flat footed 3 point shooter with a good feel for the game.

As always thanks for stopping by and having a quick look and perhaps a not so brief read. lol All cards up for sale / trade. The guards of summer league mailday coming up next.... then soon to be followed by one of my best PC maildays in quite some time.

Cheers

Nice big haul there mate, really like the Parsons hope he can elevate his game another level at the Mavs!

Him and Dirk should be able to spread the D nicely. No shortage of offensive firepower on the Mavs!

Big bunch of cards, love the write up with each one.
Shame about Royce White, looked a real player in college.

I respect the most well rounded players most - Big O, Kidd, Lebron, Magic - he looked a likely Anthony Mason type of guy.

It's really interesting to see how some of the players develop (or not). Some nice cards there!

Its my way of seeing some new cards in hand too since I'm not a big box breaker. Summer league and speculating on rookies who may be sleepers is a fun past time.

Haha love the write up :) Nice work man.

When the write up is more entertaining than the cards you know it's pretty low end stuff! lol

lol The cards are cool too :) I wade through all the summer league studs in my various keeper leagues, looking for cheap talent that could go somewhere in the future, so its cool to see all their autos!

Nice Kelly Olynyk AKA Jay from Jay & Silent Bob.

I never tire of a good novel in the mailday section ;)

Awesome write ups as per normal mate. Good stuff.

Cheers KB - as I like to say - every card and every player has a story behind it.

Same reason why I look into these things, I'm in one very deep keeper league. Need to know these things in intricate detail! Hamilton on the Heat is a good fit, flying way under the radar.

Nice Kelly Olynyk AKA Jay from Jay & Silent Bob.

I should write on the back of NBA cards, would definitely be much more entertaining than the guy who mentions that on 18 November some dude grabbed a career high 4 points and 2 rebounds against the Suns in a 108 to 82 routing.

I love it so much your mailday Skip ! More than cards it's a story and you captivate me with your comments.

Thanks at you Mister the artist !

Thanks at you Mister the artist !

Haven't seen you on the forums in quite some time! Welcome back! Who doesn't like a well written story? :)

Skip your maildays are always something else!!! Love the write up and the cardboards all right too:D!

I seriously need to start writing for a sports blog or something... But here it's all about the cardboard!

Nice cards but the write ups are awesome! Love it!

I need another PC shootout to comment on! Make it happen Matt!

The bucks must be spewin about Harris! He will have a huge impact with oladipo in the next few seasons. Nice picks up too!

That was a good read. Thanks.

I like Teletovic....Jacks it up, but that's his job. May have had 3 airballs in a row but he also had 7 or 8 3's in a half...something like that. Dude can shoot.

Quite the mailday Skip!

Love the mentality of the shooters who can shoot 3 airballs and keep shooting, could never do that myself, that would make me stop shooting...for the rest of that game at least! haha

Love the Parsons auto!

Acy has been in the weight room!

Awesome write up Skip

Cheers mate - keep an eye out for tonnage part 2!

Not just the fact they lost him but they way they lost him - for JJ who bolted for another team anyway. Ouch!

That was a good read. Thanks.

No doubt the guy can shoot. In the NBA shooting streaks like that are expected when guys get hot - but not when they're not. If they want multiple airballs in a row I'm sure I can deliver (assuming I could get a shot away!)

Quite the mailday Skip!

Real shooters keep shooting no matter what - well that's what they say anyway. Reminds of Homer Simpson being stuck in a pit when he comes up with the line "We'll dig our way out!"

Acy is wiry, springy and no beanpole. All I'm saying is he's no Karl Malone. If he was he;d have a totally different game. I sense an Acy fan in the house.....
