Former professional basketball star Luc Longley, his family and his children's friends escaped a fire which gutted his $2 million house at Fremantle, fire authorities say.
The blaze started about 3am (AWST) on Saturday at Longley's house in Montreal Street in the port suburb of Perth.
Longley, his partner, his two children and their two friends escaped without injury, a Fire and Emergency Services Association (FESA) spokesman said.
The sports star is being hailed as a hero, but lost much of his sporting memorabilia.
The converted industrial premises was well alight by the time fire crews arrived.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control within one hour but the $2 million property was left gutted, the FESA spokesman said.
Crews were able to stop the fire from spreading to Longley's adjacent car park which houses up to five vehicles.
FESA and police arson teams are investigating the incident but are not treating the cause of the fire as suspicious.
The 218cm-tall former star spent 10 years playing for a number of basketball teams in the US National Basketball Association (NBA) and also played for the Australian team.
He played for the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s with basketball legend Michael Jordan, who helped the team win three consecutive NBA championships.
