Low number v Sig position?

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are as to what's more important. The example that has made me think about this is the david klemmer young gun. Most of the lower numbers he seems to have signed right to the left of the box (visually not as appealing given it is a short sig) when compared with alot of the later ones numbered above 100 where the sig seems to be fairly nicely centred, wondering if people put much value on location etc?

For me I wouldn't really pay more low numbers ( but i know alot do) than the higher ones.

Interested to get peoples thoughts in particular from people who do put value on low numbers.

I am happy to pay that little bit extra for lower numbers but only if the sig is worth it. I saw a klemmer number 3 i think it was for a good price but his sig was all the way to the left as u described. So i grabbed a slightly higher number with a sig in the middle looking sharp.

A good example is the Buderus league sensation last year, the early cards he signed over the top of his photo in an Andrew Ryan Captain Signature-ish shocker, but later ones he signed down the bottom as intended.

Give me the well placed sig any day!

I'd take the low number.

As a seller it's easy for me to advertise a card as having a lower number and their are collectors that the low numbers will always appeal to.
If I was to sell it as "David Klemmer Young Gun - It's a nice looking centered signature" I think that's a bit of a hard sell.

As a collector, yes I would want a nice looking signature in the PC....but if placing a value on them the lower number wins.

Here are my 3 Klemmers, which would you prefer based on the Signature Only:

I have always wondered if they always sign the cards in number order are if its just random, depending how they were taken out of the shipping/storage box or do they sign in one burst or over a couple of short signing periods. because then wouldnt the first few signatures they sign they would be warming up and the last few sigs would probably have fatigue in the hand.

at the end of the day i would like a nice signature a low number is a bonus but not important

I agree it might normally be a hard sell as usually I imagine they are all roughly around the same centred location so whats the big difference but when they are drastically different I don't know that it's as hard a sell.

Based on the ones you put up they are all better then some I have seen which virtually finish before you even get to the young gun tag.

On the ones you have I would definitely prefer the 1st one then then 3rd one and the middle one as last.

Those numbers are #12, #6 and #106. You have put the #6 as your least preferred but I know that if I were to list them all on eBay at the same price the #6 would be the first to go.
I agree there are extreme versions which would scare you off. I saw some Shillington autos last year that you'd have a hard time convincing people it was a signature. But if it's a #1 or #2 or jersey number, team collectors would still jump on it quickly regardless.

Yeah I definitely agree with you Particular numbers #1 jersey numbers would probably still sell regardless the location (and maybe even the quality) of the sig. Same with people who collect one number e.g the member on here who chases number 36.

But I guess where it comes into question of a random number say #7 (not a halfback) with a dodgy sig, vs say #56 with a nice sig. me I'd prefer the #56 if the same price, but seems I may be in the minority.

Personally I don't place any extra value on low numbers and prefer the actual signature to be good - centred and not rushed. Some players get lazy towards the end of the pile like this years Tedesco YG and I will pay more for a good looking sig
