Looking for opinions. Over the past year, I've been watching tonnes of tape and reading lots of articles and I figured it's time to expand the PC past Anthony Randolph (LOL).

Here's a list of people who I have been thinking about but haven't been able to pull the trigger one way or another:
  • Bob Cousy - class act, not much around
  • Oscar Robertson - turned out he was very cold and authoritative (though rightfully so but put me off a collection)
  • Michael Jordan - too cheap
  • Shawn Kemp - amazing but such poor work ethic
  • Gary Payton - I believe a certain Nick will beat me to every card?
  • Elgin Baylor - someone tell me more about it, I like him but a certain Gio on BlowOut just seems to pump this guy
But who are some of your lovable greats, looking for someone who is both great on and off the court. Happy to just talk about greats as well because I'm bored and I might find someone that way LOL

I recently started one of Mutombo, seems like a great character off the court as well as on the court and his cards are definitely affordable! :D Plus I think he has a nice autograph which helps :)

Whaattt!! Just cause the dude got fat and smoked some pot. haha

If you want to start a side collection, I have a LOT of doubles I could do a super nice deal on, but you'll always be competing with me for cards.! lol

Theres not a huge amount of high-end Kemp stuff to go around, most hard-core collectors will never let them see the light of day again unless you rob a bank to pay for the stuff.

I'm hoping 2013-14 may see some Panini patches or autos as I frickin hate that leaf sh*t he signed.:sick::sick:

If I had the $ to start collecting another player, and he's not everyones cup of tea, but I would go for Dennis Rodman, only drawback he has a craptastic auto.
Others, maybe Scottie Pippen (pricey) or Clyde Drexler perhaps.. both have nice autos.

Good luck with your decision.

If you are looking to collect a friendly, well respected player. I've heard theres some dude called Metta World Peace..

I don't know too much about him, but honestly with a name like World Peace, he's gotta be a great guy and role model right?!? :cautious:

Just like World B. Free right?

I think Doron Lamb has a better auto than Rodman. He's also too funky for my liking but I respect a man who can truly express himself and doesn't give a shit about what others think

Yao Ming, Joe Dumars, Grant Hill, Dikembe Mutombo, Kevin Johnson, David Robinson the list goes on and on...

Magic Johnson and Grant Hill are two that would be good - both fit your criteria and have reasonably priced cards, Hill now after the influx of Panini stuff!

Also can't go wrong with Hakeem.

Why not pick up a rookie and nice auto of everyone you mentioned? Instead of going full-on with a player you could just pick up bits and bobs, then have a nice little collection of lots of nice legends ;)

Give me your favourite nice guy Skip!

I've picked up autos of all those guys so I'd go with the suggestion above... If I had to pick the nicest guy I'd go with Dikembe, if I had to choose one of the players to PC I'd go with Yao....

He has the Chinese connection going as well!

Oooh I hadn't thought of that!

From you list, Cousy is the nice guy! He is a real gentleman and was/is way under appreciated!
Here is a story about him and his wife:

I am like you in the way that I prefer to collect players that are great on an off the court. Hence my settling on autos of David Robinson and Magic Johnson. They are both stars of the game and decent people as well!
