Now everyone is gonna think I am a copy cat.... but... I just finished my all-star weekend and intended to put up all the details.... only to find a MSN message waiting for me with a link to Matty's write up LMAO Great minds think a like...
97/98 Mod Rosters have come into play here... 8 Minute Quarters....
Minnesota Timberwolves
Original Starting Lineup:
Stanley Roberts
Christian Laettner
Kevin Garnett
Isaiah Rider
Stephon Marbury
Bench:
Tom Gugliotta
Sam Mitchell
Anthony Peeler
Terry Porter
Reggie Jordan
Cherokee Parks
Timberwolves season started slowly with the team actually slumping to 10 - 13, despite Isaiah Rider averaging 33.1PPG at that stage. Marbury was having difficulty getting into the game and Laettner was dominating the boards, but the Twolves fell down with outside shooting and Stanley Roberts at Center was tiring too quickly.
The Nuggets proposed a trade that saw Terry Porter depart for Center Dean Garrett, who slipped quickly into the starting lineup. Still the Timberwolves struggled, with opposition teams recognising that they went to Isaiah Rider too much. When Rider started passing the ball around, getting Garnett involved in the game the Wolves started to go on a winning streak.
The GM still believed the team lacked enough of an outside threat so traded away Tom Gugliotta and a 1st round draft pick to get the young star Donyell Marshall.
Thirty Games in the starting lineup had changed to:
Dean Garrett
Kevin Garnett
Donyell Marshall
Isaiah Rider
Stephon Marbury
Then tragedy struck causing an end to the Timberwolves 7 game winning streak... Isaiah Rider went down with a bone spur, sidelining the champ who had climbed to third in MVP favouritism for four weeks. Straight away the Wolves went to OT for the first time in the season, but didn't have the legs to get home. What followed were two more (making three straight OT) games which the wolves won one and lost one... it was a hard adjustment period.
Garnett stepped up with the assistance of Marbury, Peeler (forced into the starting lineup) and Marshall. The wolves looked to score more in the paint and have pushed their way up the power rankings from 17 to 7.
Wolves currently 5th in the Western Conference 35 - 16 with Isaiah Rider due to come back in the next game! Rider missed the All Star break, but his teammates stepped up to show the ferocious Wolves had intentions of taking the NBA Championship.
Marbury won the Rookie Game MVP leading the Sophomores to a huge victory with 42 points and 28 assists (Big men and alley ooping all the way ha).
Anthony Peeler defeated Gary Payton for the 3-point championship and Kevin Garnett scored 50 in the second round to defeat Tim Duncan in the Dunk contest. Both events Rider may have been invited to, if not for injury - he can only look forward to next season.
Stephon Marbury shone again, this time for the west scoring 24 points and Amassing a monster 30 assists (most to Garnett and Shaq) to win the All Star MVP award... the crowning moment being with 1.7 seconds left after Jordan had tied it for the east, Marbury took a catch and shoot from the inbounds pass to sink the winning duece!
West 133 - 131 East
MVP Candidates at the break:
Chris Webber
Kevin Garnett
Karl Malone
Patrick Ewing
Antoine Walker
Oh and the leaders in the East are the Bulls at 38 - 14.
