So Birds RC was from 80-81 Topps #34, which according to Beckett it was the one with Magic Johnson (also RC) & Julius Erving, shown here;

My question is, this card is ALSO from the same set, but features different players, Bird, Cartwright & Drew;

So would this one also be Birds RC????

Most of our younger members might remember the 96-97 Collectors Choice ones were the same with the Kobe RCs;

Its because of where it sits on the checklist that its regarded as the rookie card.

The first card is #6 and the second is #94.

Nah im taking about the 80-81 set.

If you cut the card up then Bird is #34 but if you look at a checklist the Bird/Dr J/Magic card (with the 3 players on it) is #6 and the Bird/Cartwright/Drew card is #94. It makes little sense to me either but my understanding is that the rookie card is based on where it sits on that checklist and the Bird/Dr J/Magic sits before the Bird/Cartwright/Drew card.

Here is the checklist from trading card database.

Yeah I think I follow now, ta.

For some reason, the card of Bird, Dr J & Magic is #6, but each player's card themselves are #'d 34, 174 & 139 respectfully.

Beckett does not consider the Bird/Cartwright/Drew card to be a Larry Bird RC, even though the single, separate card on it's own, is still his only RC....?? Strange!

I'll need to edit my checklist on this card, because of the way it's numbered.
