Jersey Numbered - Thoughts

So, if a player changes numbers either with a team change, or a "Kobe" change, what's the conception on Jersey Numbered cards.

Do we also include the previous numbers, or new numbers on cards that either display them in a different number, or other.

Say a card back in the early 2000s of Kobe is numbered 24/XX is that also a Jersey Numbered, or a card released today is numbered 8/XX is that Jersey Numbered too?


I see Harris cards popping up lately with him in Nets/Mavs uni's and they're numbered 5/XX and people are claiming them Jersey Numbered, all because he (was) #5 with Utah (that'll change soon too - Josh Smith is #5).


To me, if they're now #5, but the card is showing them in an old uni (with an old jersey number) then the card is clearly not jersey numbered, yeah?

I have a general rule....its only jersey numbered if its numbered to the jersey being worn on the card.

For me it has to be numbered to the jersey that they are most known for. I collect jersey numbered Jermaine O'neal but it must be number 7 because that was the number he wore for most of his career

If the number doesn't match the jersey he is wearing in the pic then its not jersey numbered in my opinion. Like a LeBron numbered 6/25 when he is in a cavs uniform is not jersey numbered.

i personally feel its the jersey shown in the pic, but well if were talking about ebay....that place is a free for all any thing could be jersey numbered or '1/1' once i saw a guy with a kobe insert numbered 82/299 and it was a 1/1 apparently....i had to message him to ask what made him think this was a 1/1? 'because kobes career high points is 82.....lame.

i say just find your own definition for it and stick to that when buying.

Im with Matt... and Garth to a point! I only normally class Jersey numbered cards as so if they are wearing THAT jersey number on that card! But like Garth said, I'd make allowances to that rule if they wore a number for the most part of their career!

For me it has to be the number that they wore through most of their career but if the player swaps and changes teams every few years then I would have to say the number that they are wearing on the card.
