This is good news imo. I think he deserves a shot just because he is Jason Kidd. The man is one of the best PG's to play the game and has a great basketball IQ. I know it's a big leap somebody going straight from player to head coach, but i think he will do well. I am happy for him and hope he can improve the Nets.
It's a brave move to appoint someone as coach straight after leaving playing. Hope he can transfer his on court basketball IQ to a coaching IQ. There is a big difference between coaching and playing.
Hopefully he won't be tempted to put himself in the game! Should be interesting to see how he does, but a head coaching position this quickly does seem more like a PR move, but then again, the Nets do seem a bit desperate to make something work atm.
Was a surprise to me too. I'm thinking he must have had an even bigger influence on the coaching of teams as a player than the public knows about. Would certainly explain the support the move is getting, as well as the praise of his role the knicks guys gave him after his retirement.
Ill certainly be watching with interest - hope he does well (but gets the job at the lakers before winning the championship)
Ironic though - that a noted coach killer is now getting his first head coach role with a team who has probably the current biggest coach killer in Dwill.. A man who even managed to scare off the longest serving coach in world sports - Jerry Sloan.
