Ive got no courage...

hey guys, heres a story for ya,

today i went to my grandparents 50th anniversary. it was really great to see that they have been married for 50yrs and still going.

anyways, once we got to the reception we shared the hall with two other families. in one of the other families was a very pretty girl. All day the girl and i were eyeing each other with interest.

heres where the problem comes in. as time went by i kept trying to tell myself go and have a chat to her. but i didnt have the courage to talk to her, (its just how i act when im around pretty girls). the end of the day came and before i knew, i was in the car, on the way back home. i felt like n idiot not talking to her.

why am i always shy? anybody got any tips? lol.

I'm no expert on the matter, but maybe it would help to think of the worst possible thing that would happen if you were to do something. At worst, you go talk to the girl and she stabs you with a steak knife. That's not so bad now, is it? Best case scenario.....well, I'm sure you can imagine that!

I'm sure some of the ladies of this site can offer a woman's perspective on how much they enjoy a nice guy showing them some attention.

Mate, common problem, common problem.

I don't have the solution either or a quick fix.
It's like guest speaking in front of a crwod, the more you get accustomed and do it, the easier it will be the next time around.
You just got to get one under the belt, but it's never easy i'm afraid.

It's easy - grab a beer or two and then u won't be shy....

Having said that - can remember the same thing - all the pretty girls used to give me the eye, but only cos I used to keep ogling them

yeah mate, i was like that for years, i feel ya. it comes down to this: its always better to regret something you did than something you didnt do.

think about what feels worse: going up to the girl, having a chat, not getting anywhere...yeah its tough when you get your hopes up beforehand and then it doesnt work out like you hoped.

but its defnitely not as bad as that regret you feel when you know you could have maybe started something great with her, but didnt have the balls to take a risk. thats an awful feeling.

Good for u - I'm sure u save heaps!

No magic recipe I reckon - just take the plunge.
I always remember ringing up this girl to go to the school formal in 7th form - didn't realise how nervous I'd be - mother of God - I needed a healthy heart - anyway I did it - she said yes and we had a great night. So the moral of the story is - take the plunge. And let us know how u get on (except not in too much detail)

LOL Andy i used to have the same problem, its a self confidence issue more than likely...but like Doc Curly said, imagine the worst possible thing that could happen, she tells you to go away, big deal right?

Now i am a very confident person, i just got sick of being in your situation and missing out on the pretty girls coz i was too shy and one day i just said stuff it and yeh...you will get their buddy

yeah i was thinking about what Dr.Curyltek said. well, ive really got nothing to lose. and, if a girl says no, i shouldnt be worried at all.

Find a topic that's common to you both ... in your case, family, go introduce yourself, and it'll go from there. Very few chicks want to humiliate a guy, they'll let you know in a nice way if they are not interested, and if they are ar*eholes about it ... you haven't missed out on much (except maybe a night with a hot chick)!

I always go by the motto that its better to have a go and fail then never to have a go at all.

The worst case scenario is that she says rack off loser. If thats the worst....its not too bad.

The best thing to have done would have been to go over and say hello and introduce yourself. Anything could have happened from there!

Oi! Have you done a PhD there mister? You can't go using the "Dr' willy nilly! And as mentioned in post #2, the worst thing that can happen is being stabbed with a steak knife!

Talking to girls was the hardest thing i went through in my late teens to early 20's.
First of all you have to try (it helps with a few drinks or mates to back you up and egg you on).
The first rejection is the hardest, once out of the way you realise it sucks but is not the end of the world (for the record i never copped a slap but some girls are straight up bitches).

One theory a mate of mine had is that for every rejection you are closer to a yes.

Remember all you are doing is talking and the girl is as nervous as you so smile, stay confident say hi and find a common topic.
Once this is achieved then you can sus out how much they are interested in you (you will learn this by experience).
Finally and most importantly if you get this far do not forget one thing.....
get a phone number/email address or else the whole thing is a waste (the reason i say this is too many of my mates get going and just forget to finish) .... in basketball terms its like going up for a dunk and just forgetting to dunk the ball

Now do you think you will see this girl again?

the bottom line, is the more you do it the more comfortable you will feel.

there's no deal and no secret as to how to gain more confidence, it's the same as anything, practice makes perfect!
