It's a nickname, where as FFA is an official title which describes the sport in question

I mean Jamaica doesn't perform reggae out on the pitch, it's just a catchy name!

Damn Wikipedia. I guess we should petition admin to change the name of the forum now to football? Even though in Australia 95% of people refer to Association Football as soccer?

Just a rough guess my man.
It just makes sense to call each forum by what it's known by. AFL, NRL, NFL, Soccer. Can't call them all football, collectors would get confused.

Perhaps you would get more people who collect Football cards joining? Why not call AFL "Aussie Rules", NRL "Rugby League". Can't say I no much about NFL so can't comment on that
