My little note book is dying on me (keyboard is broken and earphone jack is busted) so im looking to get a new one but have been thinking about picking up a tablet instead. I really havn't looked into tablets fully but from what i have seen they can do everything a notebook can do right?

Any advise would be great from anyone who has one (Either Ipad or Galaxy)

personally not enough functionality in a tablet for me....they basically just surf the web...cumbersome trying to do other things....depends what you need i guess. i use office, photoshop, torrents etc a lot, so tablet wouldnt be much good...plus notebooks/laptops are soooo cheap atm.

The missus has a Ipad2, a laptop and im on the home PC, plus we use both our phones over wifi.

Probably overkill but why not?

Tablets are quick and easy to use, Tabs get my vote

I think you may struggle with compatibility and functionality of some software.
Depending on what you intend to use it for??? It may serve the purpose. But if you have a need for things like photoshop or other mass function programs you might struggle!

I have a desk top at home, and an iPad2 which I thought i was a bit ****y at first but now love it! I take it everywhere with me. Great for surfing the web, checking emails ozcards, tweeting and watching games on league Pass.

Well after having my Galaxy s2 phone for the past month i find i rarely use my notebook as is. The only thing i still use it for right now would be for photoshop to resize pics i take for maildays and thats it. My only concern would be photo storage on a tab or can you run an external HD to back up pics/movies etc on them?

In the case that i can just back everything up would it be necessary to go with the 32gb model or just the 16gb

netbooks obviously can do more so they get my vote.

But every day need apps come out for ipad and android tablets that you may be able to find software that does what you need.

I am sure there is also a windows 7 tablet out there which would run windows applications. Some may come with detachable keyboards that turn tablets into mini notebooks.

Get both,
It's like having a bike and a skateboard. They can both be used for transportation, but they are two completely different things.
You wouldn't say that I'm not going to buy a bike because I already have a skateboard.
Don't skimp either, get the iPad 2 then get any computer with at least an i5 processor.
Tip#1, Never skimp on computers!!
Tip#2, You should never be looking for computer deals in Walmart.

I find the tablet is more for conveniance whilst the laptop is for functionality. At this point there is no comparing the two because they are very different items for very different markets. In 5 years time I dare say no one will be buying laptops but everyone will have a tablet because they will eventually have the same functionality. I have both and use them both for different things. If I was you and wanted a tablet I'd go for one thats windows based or running the android system. Others are just too difficult when it comes to compatability unless you have every one of their support products (cough apple cough).

The only thing I can think would be the software. If you get a tablet (that's apple right?), the software will be specific and you won't be able to use any other companies software right off the shelf. Rather, you'd have to spend even more to get software that is specific for that item. Note books/lapttops (unless you buy apple) are far easier in that pretty muchb any software is compatable. Then there is the price...... i'd say notebook.

There are many many different types of Tablets, not just the iPad.

personally if you can hold of for 6months then do it. Tablet wars are getting bigger and bigger and each company is packing more and more features. I bet by end of 2012tablets will be much closer if not the same as netbooks in usability.

oh? my s2 is running 2.3.2 maybe i'll look for an update haha.

Just checked mine 2.3.2 aswell  I was under the impression it was 3, either way i want ics on my S2 but the ics theme will have to do for now till they give us the update

I would strongly suggest looking at the Sony. Have heard very good things about it.

After checking out the Sony it was a tough choice! I ended up getting the Galaxy Tab 10.1, i found it hard to decide between the two so the deciding factor basically came down to me owning the GS2 phone which im super happy with, the slim form of the Galaxy and the bigger screen (Love my movies/tv shows ;))
