That's correct but in his last season with Cleveland lebron was rallying to get all teams to retire 23 out of respect so yeah he was gonna change his number no matter where he ended up, including if he had stayed in cleveland

I think when Lebron started saying he was changing his number while still in Cleveland, was when he made his mind up to go to Miami as they had retired 23 previously and Lebron was just getting ready to make the switch, therefore "the decision" was already decided a long time before hand!
That may not be right, as he filed papers to change his number before seasons end. He wouldn't need to do that if there wasn't a chance he might have stayed. I don't think Miami was set in stone that early, otherwise wade would have resigned quicker rather then talking to the interested teams. If I remember correctly weren't people saying there was a good chance wade might sign with the bulls?
