I have just got home from, what was for the most part of it, an excellent NBL game of basketball. Went to the 36ers v Tigers game. Now this is not a story of sour grapes. For Melbourne to win the way they did in OT was brilliant and i comend them on their victory, however their win was soured some what by one player............... Julius Hodge.

It was one of the worst scenes of unsportsman like behaviour i have ever seen. Through out the game he copped it from the crowd, as expected considering the history between him and the 36ers. His game was average at best. However at the end of the game after prancing around like an idiot and waving his arms he went over to the Brett Maher signature on the court and proceeded to stomp all over it, jump, and make a squashing action on it (as u would to put out a ciggy).

Even after being pulled away by team mates and obviously told to stop he broke away and continued the action.

This is disgusting behaviour and really made my blood boil. Brett Maher had nothing to do with the game, since he has retired, and it was the most direspectful display i have ever seen.

In response i say this to you Mr Julius Hodge.............. GO HOME:mad:!!!! We do not need your ego driven, direspectful, unsportsman like attitude ruining our league and game. Brett Maher is 10 times the player you will ever be and was a legend in the league and for his country. You are simply an NBA reject with a jumpshot borrowed from Shaq!

I certainly hope the NBL make an example of Hodge and make him apologize to the league, 36ers and most of all Brett Maher. Maybe even a donation to Mahers Charity would be appropriate.

Once again this is not sour grapes yet an expression of my disgust in one player's actions.

Am i being unfair, too harsh or one eyed? Feel Free to comment.

I echo your statement in it's entirety!!

I am a loyal 36ers fan, have been since i was 6! I put aside the whole Julius vs 36ers thing as Im a Julius fan too and knew there was always 2 sides to a story!

He played like crap, he had, what 16 points! missed numerous free throws had some massive turnovers and just generally wasn't really a factor. The way he handled himself was disgusting! He was suggesting to the crowd to "shush" after his 2nd bucket! Every time he made a half decent play it was like he was god, he sooked and moaned more then Shane Heal FFS!!!!

What he did at the end of the game was nothing short of stupid, cowardly, arrogant and just plain disgusting!

I know ego's come with the sport and such, yes he came to our league and dominated and can probably can continue to do so, but to disrespect a player like Maher, who served his club for 18+ years, is just down right despicable!

Julius, I have gone from being your number one fan, my Worthless PC shows this, to being one of your biggest haters! I was all ready to let water pass under the bridge, even with the bullsh!t he was saying all through the week in the media here, but to do what he did, I hope he breaks his leg in multiple places and can never walk again let alone play basketball. Your talent is a gift, not a given right!

I don't think it's over the top to blow up like you did, someone doing that on your home court, I would be prob on the court goin for him!

For those who don't know - can you explain the Hodge situation from when he came to the NBL - leaving and coming back.

He was originaly bought out here by the 36ers as a late replacement in 07/08. He tore it up and went back for another shot at the NBA. He was the last man cut by the Nets before the start of the season. He was bought out again by the 36ers last year as a replacement for Mark Tyndale. He slotted straight in and away we went. Unbeknown to fans he wasn't the "hard" worker he was claiming to be, a pay dispute arose, apparently the club payed him late or to the wrong account. They fixed this and even paid him a month or so in advance. He was in contact with the club just a couple of hours before a Home game saying all was well and that he would be suiting up for that game. He just didn't rock up to the game! No phone call no nothing! He went MIA. It took a day or 2 for everything to come to the front and in the end he left the country and payed the club back between $20 - $30k within the next month!

He'd been yapping his mouth to the media since he signed with the Tigers. He was going on in the papers all week saying that the 36ers were like a scorned ex girlfriend and that basically if he was here for 5 years we would have renamed Brett Maher court after him. PFFFFT!!!!!!! A couple of the players, current and former jibbed at him during the week which was to be expected, considering his arrogant statements! All night last night he was booed, he thought he was very hard done by, by the refs (The Umpires were shocking last night but it was both ways!!!) every time he got to the free throw line he'd brick them, he was a none factor even considering he had 18 points! He went something like 4 from 14 from the line! 2 of those fairly well sealing the deal for the Tigers in OT! When the final siren went he was prancing around like any player would after a hard fought victory in OT against a former club but just took it way to far by stamping on the court ontop of Brett Mahers Signature, near the center circle like it he was stating this is his court! He also gave the fans behind the bench a mouth full or 4! He was dragged away by his teammates but went back again and was confronted by a 36ers official and Matt Burston who didn't play last night! As he left the court still blowing kisses and being an arrogant SOB, rather then taking it in his stride, fans were basically rushing the players entrance abusing him wildly with security pushing them back....

I would not have been surprised if a number of fans stayed behind and waited for the Tigers to leave!

Ive been following Hodge since he first came out here and have looked right back into his collage career where he was a beast! If he didn't get shot soon after being drafted hence putting his development right back he would have been a damn good role player in the NBA!! The problem is he knows this, and coming out here just thinks he's god or the like!

I sincerely hope his career goes well, just not here! He doesn't deserve to play in our league, he can go back to France and try to keep half arsed teams in there divisions! I was all for him playing here as I thought it would be wonderful for the league to have some one so electrifying and crowd pulling here but he has just proven that his ego controls him and his a disgrace of a professional athlete!


Thats a massive rant from me but its about the only way I can get it out, I feel like a fking idiot for having wasted so much money on a guy like this!

Last cut by the Nets, who started 0-18? Who were they holding out for, would've thought they could needa decent player or 5.......

Didn't know he got shot either.

I know what mayhem a player disrespecting an away teams fans and court can cause, few seasons back we had a few incidents at Hawks home games were refs and players had to take off into the locker rooms, copping abuse from everywhere and security stopping people/throwing people out for pelting stuff at them on the way through.

I think it's good cause it creates a fierce home court advantage, as long as it doesn't cross cetain lines, when it comes down to it, it's a game, took me a few years and hard lesson to learn that though :lol:


So what now of the PC mate? I couldn't imagine if I had a big collection of and respect for a player and they did that.

He was cut before the start of the 08/09 season, sorry! He just went off to France and played over there most of this year!

Honestly, I don't know! I have invested heaps into a PC thats worth nothing, I was in negotiations for another 1/1 and Exquisite Rc Auto Patch up until a day or 2 ago, but now I don't know! It's to hard to decide! I may well burn all of my doubles and so on though! I just don't know! It's a fked situation! The guy can clearly play to a point but he's a douche on the grandest scale!!

Thanks for all your comments guys. Its almost 24 hours later and im still furious LOL. I have heard from a couple of people who are close to the club that the real reason he left was basically he wasn't highest paid player at the club and wanted a pay rise. Club couldn't afford it, so he basically spat dummy and left. I think he used the late payment thing as an excuse.

I'm afraid we see this all too much from american athletes and european soccer players. Its the money that drives them and they go to the highest bidder. Now Mr. barkley recently remarked there was no way he would play AFL for the peanuts our players get paid and i think this just further enhances my point.

I think is Australia we have the balance right, mainly because its no economical to and there isn't the investment. Players still have a loyalty to a club and get paid $500k-$1mill at most. No player is bigger than the team and if they think they are they get moved on.

In ways it does hold our league back, not AFL (because its unique), but NBL and a-league mainly. This is because the players go off shore for bigger money, and to further their career in higher quality leagues. It's also harder to get quality players to come here. However i have come to the conclusion i would much rather this than have the ego driven, money hungry, sobs playing in our leagues thinking they are king d*cks!

I have been a Melbourne Tigers fan for ages, mostly because of the way Andrew Gaze represented the club and the game in general. This Julius Hodge is the complete antithesis of what the Gaze family did for that club and I hope he is sanctioned and or sacked.

Dickhead of the highest order.

Can't believe he wanted to be the highest paid, hes not even that good, seems like a total knob head, there has been way better imports over the years then hodge.
