How Times Have Changed !

Hi all - Some of you would have read my occasional rants before, if they annoyed you then you might like to finish reading here because you might not like this one either

That being said, please feel free to give your opinion on the subject at hand as that is why I have started this thread (For your opinions) - Not to have a go at me for writing this !!! Sometimes....yes sometimes I like to start a thread that will encourage responses, it may be controversial and it may get heated but at the end of the day that is what forums are all about - Expressing opinions and asking others of theirs

I am a small time collector to most here, I mainly trade for my Chris Duhon cards but I quite often trade with someone if I have a card they need or want to help them out (Even if they don't have a card I need). What I have found happening more & more here is that people will only trade with me if I have a card they need, they don't want to trade with me to help me out and they don't want to trade with me just for the sake of trading.....they only want to trade if it will benefit them or sell me the card they have offered !!!

Before I go on I would like to say NOT EVERYONE here is like this so PLEASE don't think I am directing this at anyone in particular as it has happened a lot lately (more than a dozen occasions recently) so I just wanted to see if it was happening to others.

Now I realise the idea of a trade is to benefit both parties so at the end of the day there is nothing wrong with this method of trading.........let me just repeat that so everyone knows that I am not accusing anyone of doing anything wrong - There is nothing wrong with this method of trading ! I only ask this question because when I first joined here people would trade you a card you needed for a card they could trade later quite often just to help you out. I still find members like Magic, HSV006, Matty, Chad, Clarkey, Axeman, Spree Fan, Funkman & Al and others (please excuse me if I don't name them all) still help out when ever they can but as a whole the trades are more business like than mate to mate than they used to be.

Once again I would just like to say that there is nothing wrong with this and I think it is a result of this site getting bigger and bigger each year and the fact that it is just Australian but World-wide now ! That being said I just wondered what your opinion on this subject is.

I'm going to sit on the fence for this one.

But i will say that i have received some ridiculous offers in the past with trades, which was clearly for the benifit of the other person.

I like to help people out but you have to draw the line when your about to be bent over.

I would just like to add that if you feel I have directed this at you because we tried to get a trade going and didn't then don't !!! This is not directed at any one individual, so please don't feel the need to respond because we didn't get a trade going - This is just something I noticed on the increase as a whole and I wanted others opinions on the matter.

Don't take my response as a personal attack because i'm pretty sure we have never attempted to trade before this.

I know how you feel though.

i feel the same way, there are some ridiculous offers out there.............................in answer to your query richo, if you can't get a trade going then buy the card.
i only do trades now for items off my wantlist as i already have thousands of cards that are tradeable/sellable.....................i already know this isn't directed at me richo as i think the last trade we did was for the card in your avatar

i find myself now basically only trading for PC Cards...but i have also found myself buying more singles and less boxes etc...i think when i first got back into it, it was exciting to open boxes, trade for lots of different cards, now i just trade for stuff ineed...i think its evolutionary

Yeah I have noticed that Richo, but I can understand it. I will trade most times if there is somethign of comparable trade... I generally only trade for things I need or that my mates may need, only because as it is I don't have many trade cards so I have to try and get something for them or I'll be back to buying every card I want. But then I have also done trades I wouldn't normally do just to help some people out... so I guess it really depends on my frame of mind. I think if no one has wanted to help me out I get a bit tighter with mmy cards, but if someone ahs done a trade basically to get me the card I want, I tend to repay the favour. I guess what goes around comes around if you get my drift.

But hey that's just how I see it in this moment.

i'm a player collector and usually have very few trade cards like 2 or 3 and i get these cards because i like them not just as trade bait so don't like trading them 4 something i like less unless it's 4 the pc but thats just my p.o.v , not really all that keen on selling them usually either unless i run out of smokes lol or some other major catastrophy happens, don't think we tried 2 trade richo so don't take this as me being defensive, just me opinion champ

Yeah I too am only really trading for PC cards at the moment as the fire for card collecting has somewhat dwindled. I also don't mind helping people out, but yeah again some offers are quite unreasonable from past experience and it makes you not even want to warrent it with a response.

Couldn't care less if i dont' come out ahead all the time. This place proves Karma exists and what comes around goes around and if the favour isn't repaid by that member another one usually pops up with a kind gesture or favour anyway. If the hobby was bent around everyone being up in trades all the time the secondary market would be 'for sale' only.

Unless you paid out of the ass for a card what it means to you or a collector is its real value.

As this place gets bigger it gets harder but everyone knows and remembers who is easy to deal with.

If I have something and its trade only and they most usually don't have something i need or want then they can just have the card if its not real pricey.

Great points everyone and I guess the point had made that I put in bold rings true.......you tend to remember the people who did you favours and hopefully pay it back sometime. I am glad no-one has taken this thread the wrong way (so far), it has been quite informative so keep the responses coming.

i don't think we should feel ablidged 2 trade , sell or give away but if it's a cheapy i think it's nice 2 give if they have nothing 4 the pc, i've done it several times and have had it done 2 me several times, they r the members i remember as good folks, i even had a member not give me their addy to send them a free horace 4 their pc , just said we'll trade in the future sometime, so in close don't do drugs

There are some great people on the forum and we all deal differently. But as Chad said what goes around comes around and eventually I think we all find ways to get the cards we want for our PC (except in the case of a KG exquisite for me ha ha).

Wolvey - u know I have one waiting for u!!

I've always found it difficult to trade here cos of my huge hiatus from collecting meaning I basically have nothing but KG and a few Amare's to trade with. This has led to me basically asking to buy/sell all the time which isn't ideal but I've found everyone to be very responsive, well mannered and understanding. I've been a member for a year and only completed my 10th trade last month!!

Despite that, this is one of the first websites I visit every day cos of the characters, sense of humour etc that u don't get on other sites.

That's exactly how I feel about it. But this topic isn't heated yet, so there

I know some of the members here are willing to give alot of time and effort when it comes to trades to make things happen, guys like Aussie Al for one We occasionally chat about this exact issue.

My perspective has altered since getting back into it, by admission I probably used to trade only if I could get an advantage, now it's much less serious for me, and I am still just partial to game useds, mainly because when I was co;llecting at my most serious, they were the "bees knees" look, a dime a dozen card now, but still it's kinda cool to get a players uniform on a card, be it Steve Blake or MJ.

Thats just my $0.02
