How long do you wait?

Just wanting some feedback on how long I should wait for payment for items I have sold on ebay. Is 9 days too long especially without hearing from the buyer, or when a buyer send a message after 3 days saying that they will pay in 2 more days then when 2 days are up send another message saying that they are sorry and will sort it out the next morning and 3 days later still nothing. I would be interested to know what you guys think.

9 days is too long IMO. Its hard when they keep sending messages promising but at the end of the day that's not your worry. I would open a unpaid item case.

send him a message, saying you will open a case against him within 2 days if he does not pay, send registered just as well

7 days or I open up a non paying bidder case, don't bother bidding if you can't pay in that time frame.

I'd send them a message clearly stating that payment is due in >insert amount days you want< and if payment is not received by then, you will be registering an "unpaid item" case with eBay.

If they email back asking for more time, simply state that you require payment by the aforementioned date.

Hi i hope i am in the right place for ...... the buyer i am reading from a text as he & family is in an area were there is no internet overseas in Borneo & he has relised he has 3 people he has to pay on ebay and i have no idea how to do this. ....... has asked is it if its okay if he can pay on tuedsay late afternoon Aust Time as he will be then in a city where he will be able to go intoa internet shop and pay all 3 people he owes can you confirm this with me please so when he rings if he rings tonight i can tell him.

My husband has asked for this ans said he is sorry but is still in hospital & now you give him to New Years Eve to pay for ot that sounds a strange night even to me he should be out Sunday night or Monday morning this has been the delay so i apoligise for him but he wot let me touch any passwords and where he is in the hospital they dont all any wireless connection devices right to the heart ward as he said tonight this is a 1 off time a he has even had to shutup the card shop while being in hospital so we have had no oncome what so ever. So please take this into account he told me to say even if you put an unpaid something account it will be piad for with in 24 hours that will go feedback lasts forever i dont know what that means but he has just been on the phone to me and told me you have good cards and want to keep buying off him again.

What should I make of all this. How should I respond, were they lying to me in the first message or are they lying to me now? If people buy things why can't they just pay. They only owe $45

Sounds like a load of bull, but given the small amount and the fact that sometimes life throws up curve balls, I would give them another 4 days (which is quite generous) and if in that time there is no payment, put in an unpaid item.

Sorry mate, but it sounds like a load of BS. First of all he's overseas where there''s no wireless connection (this from what i am assuming is a friend), and then from his wife saying that he's in hospital and no-one is running the "cardshop"? He can't have wireless services in the heart ward but he can call her? sound like they're trying to scam you. I'd post an unpaid claim asap.

I'd put in an unpaid claim. Raising one before the 21 days is up covers you and if they do come through with the money this time the unpaid claim can be withdrawn. It won't affect there feedback. Plus sellers can over leave positive feedback to buyers.
When I buy off someone I pay ASAP unless I'm waiting on another of there items to end that I'm also bidding on but even then as soon as I'm finished buying I pay

As a pessimist, I can absolutely tear those messages apart but Taff seems to have done a pretty good job. And everything Jason says is true; it's more to cover you than to instantly give them a red mark against their name.

Unfortunately non-paying bidders/buyers are really common now. I now send a msg after 24 hours asking for payment within 48 hours (unless contact is made and extension requested). That's three days, if nothing - case opened so 7 days total to pay max or strike against. I used to open case after 7-8 days and it got ridiculous waiting up to 12 days to ge paid or be able to relist if it was my last one, a one off or whatever.

At least this dude is creative, still a time waster nonetheless

Finally they paid. Now only one more needs to pay and I won't have to lodge an unpaid item claim. Whats even worse is this one is for a single $10 card
