This question has popped up a fair few times on here but it's always good to rekindle those thoughts and remember the good times, It's a memory of the simpler times for me also and how times change so instead of boring everyone I thought I would dig up my intro from 2006. Pretty sure I dealt with you early on mate, and you were probably generous with me too so thank you and yeah it can be like that... I have periods where I don't log on much, I come back and so many new faces I feel lost, but then I see familiar faces and it just feels good.
Yes, we did a trade or two when I first joined. It's good to see you back. I might have some Timberwolves cards from the new Panini stuff if you are interested, probably not much. Shoot me your addy by pm if interested.
I first began collecting back around 94 when the parents would take me and my brother to the markets, He collected NRL, Surfing and a few packs of other sport/non sport here and there. I also collected the NRL cards, but was never that into the sport. For me it was all about the basketball and Marvel cards. Everytime we went down to the cornerstore we'd beg mum for some money to get some packs from the vending machine. We then started getting pretty serious about it and went to local swap meets trying to find some good deals and what not as well as buying the odd single from the local card shop. Unfortunately as a kid I mostly had to depend on my pocket money, so never did get to complete any sets. One of the most joyous days for me and my brother as a kid was when he bought the last glo-cap that he needed to complete his simpsons set...
Then came the sad day when we went down to the corner store and discovered that the card vending machine had disappeared, we had no idea what was going on, soon thereafter the markets stopped doing swap meets, and their card booth disappeared too. But all was not lost as the local card shop was still there, then just as suddenly as the others had disappeared, the card shop had closed for good too. My brother had then completely lost interest in the hobby and packed all his stuff away into storage. I tried to hang on as long as I could, taking my collection to school trying to find people to trade with, but no one was interested in the hobby except for one of my best friends. We traded back and forth for a while...but soon ran out of things to trade without being able to buy new packs. So with that I packed up all my cards and put them into storage, with the exception of my marvel/x-men cards, which i displayed in sleeves on my notice board along with all my x-men comics.
I'd say I really gave up collecting probably around 1999 or so but have always held an interest in Comic cards. 2002 or so I dug out all my basketball cards for nostalgia sake and kept them beneath my bed. As soon as i got a decent paying job I'd spend a few hours here and there searching Ebay looking for complete sets of x-men cards, but always chickened out. For some reason, I have never liked the idea of actually buying anything off ebay...no idea why.
In the past year or so I've really gotten into collecting Comics and comic statues and decided to go buy nice new shiney sleeves for all my marvel cards. At which stage I decided to try and get back into collecting cards, and started googling like crazy, where I found the cardzone website and saw how readily available all these cards were, a bit more googling and I came across this great site, and thanks to footycard and ejt85 I have fullfilled a childhood dream of owning complete sets of x-men cards (for a fraction of what I thought it would be, and ten times simpler then I thought it would be).
Since then (2weeks?lol) I've climbed into the crawl space at the parents place trying to find my basketball cards, but only found my brothers NRL, surfing, simpson glo-caps and other random stuff. Couldn't find my basketball cards, at which stage I remembered the big clean up I did 2 years ago in (kicking myself now believe me). I've also bought $60(all they had left) of buffy cards from the one newsagency in town that sells trading cards (Yugioh and twilight mainly), of that $60 of buffy cards i bought I only managed 2 half collections of the 2 ikon series and some inserts. I've also bought a crap load of benchwarmers cards from stormernumber1 and a set from dangerskillz.
Anywho, sorry for the mass amount of text, but I am bored at work and felt like sharing my story
Cheers and Thanks for having me on this great site,
Camo
Fathers Day last year, asked the wife to put some cash into Ebay rather than buy me stuff I dont really need, bought a set of team cards for the Power, then another, then another, then different singles and in 5 months I have @700 cards, what obsession!!!
