My PC (not so big) was dictated by the money i wanted/ could spend. focusing on one player - the player i really, really, really like. you don't really get a good PC if you have so many players.

I think I have a decent PC of each of the many players that I collect. I think it is a problem if all your PC players are superstars whose cards will cost a fortune. I had one superstar collection (Shaq), then a bunch of lesser players like Yao and Jeremy Lin who are stars, then the other Asian players who are worth less.
I have recently settled on Iggy. I still collect some D Rob and Gervin but find Iggy's stuff to be at very reasonable prices and there is a great range which is included in Flawless and Immaculate. The task is to now settle on this PC which is always a challenge...

I was thinking the same way. 1 major player and a few role players. However, small little $ can be combined to buy 1 big card. hehe. works well if your primary PC is already decent and only real expensive cards left hehe.
btw, lin isn't "lesser" i saw some of his rc go for good $$

He was very "lesser" for a year or so until Linsanity, then I sold all his cards, now I am building up again. He is a good player and belongs in the league but he is just a star at his best. If he lands in the right situation, he can produce good numbers like Goran Dragic, may scrape through and make All Star team with some die-hard fans voting for him.
But I don't see his cards being more expensive than Yao's in the long run. I am just waiting patiently.
I've liked Shawn Kemp since I was a kid which is why I still collect him now. Regarding Aminu I was watching a few Clippers games during the griffin boom and liked Aminu's play and he was a in my spending range and didn't seem to have a big following so I picked him up. With Drummond I knew had a lot of potential when I saw him pulling double doubles when getting only 10-20 mins a game. I liked the way he was a beast in side and at the time his cards were cheap so I started collecting not expecting to PC much, but it grew from there.

I do agree. Well, if he does do another round of Linsanity, his cards would also be a good investment.
Don't forget he still holds a lot of NBA records so his cards will always be a good investment if you opt to sell later on.
I thought about getting back into the card game around the same time that my wife was pregnant with our son.
We always knew we would name our first son, Kobe, so I thought KB24 would make sense, with the intention that when Im gone, he acquire the collection.
Plus, when Im spending toom uch $$$ on cards, I can alway throw out the line "Well all these cards will be his one day and he can hopefully put a deposit on a house by then..." lol.
Not that my story really helps your situation.... unless you want to name your first born "Lebron"

Hahaha. If you only knew how much I don't like Lebron. It's got nothing to do with Lebron himself, more the fact that my best mate idolises him. Plus, I don't think there is any way I could convince my wife to name our child after an NBA player.
I think I made my decision and Brandon Knight made the cut along with Maurice Harkless (side PC) and Oscar Robertson (HOF PC).
It is interesting though hearing stories of how people decided on their PC player.
