How cheap is postage from China?

Just had a card sent from China. It was registered post from Beijing. Was sent is a large padded bag and was registered.

Postage cost.......19Yuan.

That is AU$2.90! That's ridiculous!

How much does it cost from Australia to China by Registered? $20.50!

Probably because Australia doesn't have 1 billion people sending mail. Aus post needs to charge more to make money.
