Just found this site, I have been a collecting cards {mainly NBA} for many years and still love it.
I was thinking about opening a sports trading card store in the eastern suburbs of sydney and was just wondering if there is any support out there or if people think that it would be a good idea? do you think the demand is there?
I remember when i was in my teens there was card shops everywhere, but then they all vanished! i think the trade could make a huge comeback. i am interested in your thoughts

Cheers guys!!
have a good one!:v:

My personal opinion is that these stores have died off for a reason. Whilst I personally would love to be able to walk into a cardshop and have a good browse etc, from your perspective, I wonder whether after paying your overheads whether it would be a profitable business. Bear in mind you have HUGE competition from online sources.

Maybe if you were to combine the sports trading card business with say collectables ala hobbyco, you would be able to attract more than the niche customers as many people visit those stores in search of birthday/christmas gifts etc.

I used to work in a shop that sold "cards, comics and collectables".
It went out of business!
Trouble is...You need to sell bucket-loads of cards to make any money.
Even if you make $2 a pack (which you won't most of the time) then you still need to sell hundreds of packs every week just to pay the bills.

Maybe try setting up a market stall to "test the waters" a bit?

Best of luck anyway. :)

Good luck, hard to make money on cards I believe, but that's just my opinion, I was thinking of doing it too, but I chickened out, good luck and welcome to OCT.
