My Anti virus software has detected a trojan horse it cannot delete and it is contained within (and in fact is) csvhost.exe in my windows system 32 folder. Now Norton cannot delete it, and I cannot delete it manually.... I've run th enorton scan, ad aware and spybot... and nothign can delete it... the weird thign is... it doesn't seem to be doing anything that is slowing my machine down (I got rid of another trojan)... but it brings up a warning window that will not go away....

I want to get rid of it.... any ideas?

Well, you can remove by using spyware and adware remover..
trojan horse are dangerous for present and future..

so u can download and update the signature before running and run the spywares...

try one of these below.

Ad-aware personal edition
webroot spy sweeper
spyware doctor

all available to download in http://www.download.com or just google the keywords, usually less than 5mb size and very effective..
and you have to do every 90 days to keep up to date..

they can usually remove what anti-virus softwares cannot.
hope this helps.

A friend of mine had a trojan last night, which turned off the Virus Scanner and some other security functions.

I tried spybot, adaware, and a few others things, but it kept coming back.

Our only option was to restore the computer using System restore to a time before he went on those naughty sites, and it fixed it right up :)

yes, the one thing I didn't try.... when maybe I should have... but I was following Norton protocols and turning it off :( so now I have no system restore option..... and not even deleting registry keys has got me anywhere I think I'm just gonna have to reformat grrrrr

update I got rid of it :D

This is how.....

after we tried deleting the registry files and the application file - we still couldn't and it kept coming back.... so I was fiddling with Norton (afterall I imagined it must hold the answer) and I discovered the norton protected files.... I turned that protection off..... emptied the protected files in the recycle bin..... went and grabbed the application - FINALLY quarantined it successfully.... then deleted it successfully - did a search just to make sure and that baby is gone... and with no system restore turned on at this moment in time... it has nowhere to hide :D

Problem solved - thanks everyone for the feedback :D

only one sure thing to do in the event of a trojan AJ, a complete reboot of windows unfortunately. you can take a chance on some other method but that is the only sure fire way to get rid of it completely. sucks but thats the way it goes (and why its important to constantly back up your important stuff).

Sounds like it's in your startup registry. Viruses (mainly trojans) do this.

I use Spybot, and by turning off the file/app that runs when ur system starts up, you will be able to virus scan and remove it.
