Help - need a good ad/spam removal tool

Somewhere along the line I've picked up a highly annoying ad spam thing on my browser - google chrome.

I can't seem to find how to get rid of it -

info

-Side pop up bar - Best Deals

-Sometimes bottom pop up bar - say if I am on ebay or ozcardtrader it will come up

-pop up when right click to open a new tab sometimes

-highlights words in a paragraph and links them with an ad

-Norton Antivirus didn't come up with anything

-Microsoft Security Essentials scan came up no threats

-can't see any spam/adware in the list of "uninstall programs" - nothing stand out

-AdBlock does not block it - I want to remove it anyway




Any help would be great!

1. Stop looking at naughty sites
2. you need to find out the culprit. my last one was omiga or something like that. then go into regedit, find all the files associated with that name and delete it from there.

What's the point of the internet if not to look at "naughty" sites

Sex sells? Who knew!
Can't even get past the non-naughty sites without getting spammed by naughty stuff and ads and malware these days.....sheesh

I KNEW I shouldn't have clicked on that link that said "don't click here unless you want malware"!

All solved thanks guys that was super easy.

It was PicRec - must have sneaked it in there with another program I downloaded or I missed the opt out/do not install button lol

When in doubt, use a mac! they aren't prone to viruses / malware like PC's are. And in the odd chance you do get hit - its super easy to remove!

you could buy a PC and install MacOS on it and save yourself $1000 lol.

when I get home ill give u a list of other programs.

one program won't remove them all. Malware Bytes is one i also use.

Of the top of my head I also use

SpyBot Search and Destroy
Hijackthis - this gives you a list of things installed in your register and protected system volumes that you can deleted. Note need to know what you are doing or can delete legit programs.
Third one too but i can't remember the name

I also disable system recovery as most the latest viruses and spyware hide in there and recover themselves when deleted.

Spybot's good, very old, but still good. Malware Bytes is definitely a fan favourite.

I use Webroot AV both in the office and at home. My PC at home has their "gaming" branded AV. For around $35/yr, I can't complain.
