Hey all,

Long story short, i sold a brand new iPhone on eBay today, the buyer has paid via Paypal, but the worrying thing is that the buyer has zero feedback and has been registered on eBay since 2010.

My instincts tell me its a scam buyer and as soon as they receive the phone they will open a dispute and get their money back.

I intend to post it via Registered Post, i know thats not foolproof but is it enough to cover me if i get screwed over?

Also am i able to just cancel the whole thing, refund the dudes money and all is good?

I just had a lengthy discussion with an eBay representative, in which they advised me to send it Registered and keep the tracking number.

If a dispute (scam) is lodged then the tracking number should be all i need to cover my ass and prevent being ripped off over $700.

That is what they said, and i have kept a copy of the conversation.

I would still try t he extra cover, just in case.

Or, you could put a sim card in the phone, and if he says it didnt arrive.... ring it

Yep keep all the details like the registered post tracking number and receipt the post office gives you. Perhaps in future auctions, you could put in the terms and conditions users below a certain level of feedback to not bother bidding. A bit tough but a lot of sellers do this.

You should be OK.....but

What I would do is get their contact info (ie phone number etc through eBay), then:
1. Check it is all legit info and
2. Call them and tell them about your concerns and if it's all legit you will be told.

Anything like that I ALWAYS contact the Seller or Buyer depending on if I am buying or selling.

Do you know how to get the contact info through eBay?

If not just click here:

I've been selling a few Apple products mostly ipads and macbooks and I assure you Platinum Post is the only way to send. Tracking signature and insurance. BTW I've got a thread up in general selling 1 more ipad.

Its been sent today, Registered Post, with $700 cover.

Ive spoken to eBay, they claim that if it goes pear-shaped, the Tracking number and proof of postage will be enough to cover me against loss.
