Hi,

Just looking for some advice regarding the best way to go about having my cards graded in the US and selling the collection. I have had the cards in my collection for over 20 years and some of the cards are in fantastic condition. The sets include:

1979/80 Topps Ice Hockey set
1980/81 Topps Basketball set
1981/82 Topps Basketball set
1986/87 Fleer Basketball set also with the sticker set
1987/88 Fleer Basketball set also with the sticker set
1989 Upperdeck Baseball set
1989/90 Score Football set

Any advice would be appreciated.

If your cards were newer releases Id recommend shipping them to BGS (via COMC) but you gonna get much better ROI with PSA for pre 1990 stuff.

Id ship to PSA get the full sets graded. Then Id consign them to a dealer with a great track record for selling older cards like PWCC.

But you MUST do you research first. Its roughly $10aud per card graded. You need to do the maths to work out if its worth it in the end...

Lastly, you never guaranteed a good grade. Ive had cards that I consider mint, and came back a 7.5 because of things you cannot see with the naked eye. (Surface grade)

Thanks Coopz,

I will also keep in mind what you mentioned about the surface grade. So I won't count my chickens until they hatch.

Has anyone used a service like http://www.smalltraditions.com/consignwithus.aspx
I am looking at maybe sending them the cards and having them do everything. They send the cards off to get graded however in reality you don't know if it is your card that actually gets sent off so you have to have a lot of trust in them to do something like that. I am just mindful that a fair few of the cards can be worth a fair bit depending on the grading.
