have any of you ever seen a great white shark or have shark stories?

ok so I will admit it im a "shark nerd" I have always been facsinated with them, (mainly great whites) and was curious as to if any of you have seen them live since Austrilia is a hot spot for them and many other sharks. also do any of you have any shark stories to tell?

one of my goals before I pass away is to actually take a trip to Austrilia and do one of those great white shark cage diving expeditions.

i had a shark take a bite out of my surf board a few years ago. i had seen a shadow go underneath me earlier then it just popped straight up infront of me and took the tip

i had to change my boardies after that

Holy Crap!!! that would of been **** scary
We were out for a surf a few years back and a pod of killer whales swam around us and under us for about 10 minutes. That scared the crap out of me. Ive seen shark fins in the water and Ive had dolphins around me but the killer whales were HUGE. Their dorsal fins were probably as big as I was lol
Pretty cool experience though.

luckily they don;t bite them!

Haven't had an encounter with a shark, but don;t really much want to either so I'll call it square!

had a couple incounters with sharks while snorkling and diving!

fair to say that a brown crayon was poking out of my bum after that!

It was a fake put together for one of those Calanders that have like... "STRIVE" and "PERSISTANCE" and crap like that.....

Other than that sharks dont "trail" like that, they investigate, nudge or attack from the bottom.

Alone in his tiny plastic sea kayak, marine biologist Trey Snow had hoped to stealthily track a great white shark. But he had the shock of his life when he spotted a giant fin and realised it was he who was being stalked - by surely one of the most feared killers in the world.

The magnificent creature initially dived to the seabed, inspecting the kayak from below, before rising menacingly to the surface. Luckily for Trey, the 13ft-long shark was more inquisitive than hungry.

Trey was just one of a team of scientists hoping to discover why a large group of great whites, which travel off southern Africa's tip during the summer, regularly swim so close to the beaches.

They decided to venture into the deep blue in the quietest and most unobtrusive vessel they could think of - a bright yellow sea kayak. Amazingly the sharks carried on as normal, giving the scientists a unique insight into their lives.

They observed that the intrepid animals come inshore to interact socially with others of their species - possibly using the opportunity to mate and give birth - and can often be spotted following, or swimming circles around, one another, for extended periods of time.

This incredible picture was taken by wildlife photographer Thomas Peschak - who had to tie himself to the high bridge of a nearby vessel and lean precariously over the ocean before he could get his shot.

The holy grail of shark research and marine wildlife photography is to see great whites mating and giving birth. It is a task which is extremely difficult and dangerous, if not impossible, and even Thomas Peschak has not achieved it yet. And Trey Snow might be thinking he has already got as close to a great white as he wants to ...

I came across a White Pointer once in South Australia while abalone diving a few years ago. I was breath-hold diving about 50 metres off-shore when I noticed all the fish zoom off. I thought they'd just been scared off by a jerky movement on my part, then I saw a large shadow reflected off the bottom. I looked up and there was a 16-footer a few meters above me. It saw me and circled back, so I thought I was dead. I just grabbed a ledge to try and minimise my movement and waited to see what it'd do. It circled twice more, then moved off. As soon as it left I surface and went straight for shore. I found out later that day it had later attacked a yacht and was subsequently shot by the owners.

I call shenannigans on this story......

Anyone that dives for Abalone would know that this so called "breath-hold diving" you speak of is called Free Diving.........

You're welcome to your opinion, mate... Anyway, what do you meen by Free Diving? I just hold my breath and dive. Usually not down for long, but in water only a couple of metres deep, you don't need to be....

Not exactly a shark story, but:

We saw a pod of about 7 killer whales teaching the baby of the pod (still about 5m long) how to hunt. They were chasing down a 3-4m long mako shark. Killer whales were breaching the surface all the time and swimming all around/under our vessel.

This was off the eastern coast of NZ south islan, back in march this year. Such an amazing/exciting experience.
