Hi all,

It has been some time since i posted anything of my own, so i thought that i would throw the question out there.

The reason is that in August next year I will be travelling to Sri Lanka to watch the boys play. I will be going with my old man, something we have dreamed of doing for sometime now.

So has anyone travelled overseas to watch the cricket??

Where did you go?? What was your experience??

I woud love to hear from anyone, and if anyone is interested, let me know and i can provide you with some of the details in the planning stages.

Hodgie

Mate sounds like an awesome tour to do.

I haven't specifically travelled to watch cricket, but during my time I have seen a lot of sport OS, I worked at Lords as an usher for a test match...what a bludge getting paid, fed and watered to watch cricket. I have also seen plenty of county matches and a few matches in South Africa.

I have always wanted to do a Caribbean tour.....

Have fun.

Ross

Yeah mate, in 2005 I travelled to the UK to watch the Ashes (First two Test matches) and again in 2007 I travelled to the Carribean to watch the One Day World Cup (We stayed on a the Galazy Cruise Ship and cruised from island to island watching a different game each day or two).

I have met friends for life on BOTH of these Tours I went on and have never regretted how much they cost as they were experiences of a life time. IMO, there is nothing like combining a holiday with watching sports in another country.

I also got to meet many former and current Test and One Day cricketers and got this little beauty made up from some of the Signatures I got:

Hey Hodgie, yeh i went to the Barbados and Antigua (world record run chase) test in 2003 and later that year i saw the Aussies in Sri lanka, what a wonderful place, you will love it. I have also been to most test venues in England and i saw live matches in Scotland, the Netherlands and USA and even in Dubai!

I am trying to get my Mrs to do a test tour with me to SA or NZ, i might have to wait for my sprog to be born (not trying yet) before i do Hey Hodgie?

thx Ross will keep updated with details once the tour details become avaliable.

Hi Dan,

Some great destinations, a very luck boy indeed!!!

Mate, trying to have a baby is the best past time in the world. I can assure you that once sprog grows into a kid your life is magically changed forever.

Good luck with the baby making ;)

thanks for the reply!

Answer for me is NO

Sounds like Ross and Richo have had a ball and the Don has definitely been at the pointy end of it all, I know he has also been lucky enough to have played a lot of cricket OS but seems a little coy about sharing that. A very lucky man and good luck with the offspring Dan!!!

Hodgie sounds like you and the old man will have a great time, and one day you will get to do it with your son too :D

Oh I forgot NZ...I've also seen many games over there but can it really be counted as OS, isn't it really just the 7th State of Australia.

HaHa - Agreed! Funnily enough, that is where my NEXT Cricket Tour will be as I can't convince the wife to go to South Africa with me :(

Hodgie - Mate you are going to have an absolute ball, the experience of walking around the cricket stands and soaking up the atmosphere can't be explained in words. A true cricket tragic loves every minute of it :D

after the Ashes win of 2005 :D i spent a couple of months (nov-jan) in Australia just doing some travels, part of a 5month travelling spree before starting a family!
was lucky enough to get to do the tours of the waca, gabba, scg, mcg and adelaide. the missus and i took in a day/night domestic (QLD V WA) game game at the gabba and a one day domestic game at the adelaide oval (SA V Tas). great to experience all the test venues and see the massiveness of the mcg comapred to the beauty of the adelaide oval. =D>
also taken in the tets matches over here at lords a few times, the oval and a few oneday internationals at the rosebowl.

on a seperate note back in 1998 my school got an invite to play in the Sir Garfield Sobers :worthy: international school cricket tournament in barbados. played against a fair few future west indians internationals which was a great experience. sadly we came about 8th out of 14 so never made it to the final which was at the kennington oval. got to meet the big bird Joel Garner as well as Wes Hall and Sir Garfield as they were all helping to iorganise it. also went on an old boys cricket tour to sri lanka a few years ago and played at the various test venues (Kandy and Galle).

am sure you will have a great time Hodgie, as the rest say savour the moment and have a blast. the people out there are some of the friendliest you will ever meet:)

Wow Alex, it would have been great mixing it with the Windies!!!!!! I would not have care if we came last, what an experience. It sounds like you had a great time in Oz, seems quite funny how there are many mentions about travelling O/S before kids.

As mentioned before I will keep everyone posted on our travel developments as test schedules (grounds) are released.

Take care Alex
