Sheryl Crow had a hit single called " All I Wanna To Do". And in this song, it had this particular line "All I wanna Do is have some fun until the sum comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard". Boy oh boy oh boy, when you head down to Santa Monica, you are really want to have some fun. Imagine this, pick your best beach place in wherever you live in Australia, Surfers Paradise for QLD, Bondi beach in NSW or even Cottesloe in WA. Multiple the number of hot chicks by 10. It is freaking cool place to watch babes in bikini. Im going to keep it clean so I'll stop here.
I'm already on my last leg of my South-western tour of the States, back in LA where I first started, Santa Monica was my next stop. Hint: getting around Santa Monica is pretty easy. You will need to take their local transport called the Big Blue Bus. And depending on where you live, there is 2 buses that will bring you to the store. Bus no 1 and 10, and it drops right in front of the store, prefect. The easiest card store to get to so far.
Funny, I entered the store when it was somewhat in a disarray. There was this one technican who was in and out of the store testing most of the communication system. Well, I found out later on that their telephone line went down, which in turn affected their Internet and credit card payment systems. The owner, Mark paid no attention on me whilst desperately trying to assist in the testing. I could have grabbed all his Kobe autos and made a run away and he would not even realized that.
Anyway, once everything settled down and fixed, he instantly became my brother, just spoke to me as if he knew me for years. We spoke about everything from politics to financial crisis. One of the more important thing I found out was that the store was in transition to a new ownership. mark was the outgoing owner and a new owner was going to take over the store in due course. That's why it did not carry too much inventory in the store. With all the retro fleet hype happening, I was thinking of getting a couple of boxes but couldn't get any.
Santa Monica Sports Cards has a got a pretty long history and was one of the bigger dealer/ wholesaler in the past. It remains as the only card store in the Santa Monica region. Apparently, Mark is the second owner of the store and has been there for the last 17 years. Obviously, he is an intelligent man but choose to follow his passion during his younger days. I would just like everyone to give this man a round of applause for such a dedication made to the hobby and wish him well for his future endeavors. Let's hope the new owner/s can continue the long tradition of the store.
I have attached pictures of the store including Mark himself. BTW, he has a lot of good singles going for a good price, mainly because he doesn't sell it on EBay. I have landed myself a white whale !!!!!! Again, if you are in the Santa Monica region, you have to visit this store.
Haven't been there in a LONG time, looks like I need to get my butt up there. How long will you be in town? I only live 30-40 minutes south of Santa Monica.

I'm based at Burbank at the moment, heading to the infamous Burbank sports store. Are you available to meet up. Happy to meet fellow members from aboard.
I actually placed a largeish order with Burbank on Beckett yesterday. And today they emailed me informing me 3 cards I'd ordered
are no longer available, no biggie apart from the 96 Topps Stars Finest refractor. But the upshot is they let me know straight away,
and offered store credit of more than what the unavailable cards added up to, or a refund. So I can vouch their customer service
is top notch.
Gee I'd love to head to the states and invade all the card shops (and take in NFL and NBA games of course) one day!
