Grand Final - Last Game...

Well although we won last night, and put ourselves into the Grand Final (against our nemesis'), I've decided it'll be my last game playing up there (New Norfolk).

Long story short, I'm sick of the half arsed comp, with it's half arsed ref(s), and a caretaker of the sports centre who has no respect for anyone else.

A couple of mates have asked if I want to play in Moonah (for those familiar with the "locals"). I don't go much on the place, but it'll be fun (most likely the lowest grade).

So, back to the Grand Final. This Saturday, 2pm...

I doubt we'll win, we lost to these guys just last Wednesday by about 20 points....

Well, what opened as a poor display of defence from us, we were down 10 after the first.

Not to mention I was T'd up after calling out "travel" like you do, the Ref blew the whistle and told me to shutup, which was no problem, but while they had the ball at the top of the 3 line, we all stopped play, except the ball carrier, who drove, and scored a layup, which was actually ALLOWED TO SCORE!!

I was furious, carried on a little, but nothing to deserve a Tech, which they hit 1/2 FTs... 3 points in total.

We moved on...

Started the 2nd knowing one of their players had 3 PFs, I started spreading the idea of drawing a foul from him. We succeeded, only to see him sit.

At the half, I think we were down 14. Not looking good.

2nd Half kicked off, we knew what we had to do. Pick it up harder on defence, crash the boards, and get inside shots. Whilst we displayed poor examples of good/great passes, we managed to pull back to within 5.

During the 3rd, we had attracted a fair bit of contact with one of their players leaving the game just before the end of the 3rd.

Started the last period with a few quick baskets, and with slight hope we were still in it. We managed to have another of their players fouled out, leaving only 4.

Fouls were going everywhere, FTs were all over the show. Not long, and we'd be back within a handfull of points, and yet ANOTHER player fouled out (leaving them with 3), and our 6th fouling out, leaving with us with no subs.

No probs, we're closing in. We're down, they have the ball, 30 (ish) seconds left.

We get the Turn Over, about 8 seconds left, I received the ball very low baseline, to which I was almost falling out, saved it, with a pass to our biggest man at the top of the 3, he shoots, he misses.......

We lost by 3.... Very good game, but disappointed with some of the calls, as we all are.

We all had drinks after the game, and a few talks went on. I discussed the "made up" call allowing someone to drive from the 3 to score a layup, after the whistle was blown, to which I received the "I know, I made it up" response....

NOT HAPPY....

Anyways, it was still a great game.

We're even talking about putting in a new side in another comp.

Damn, so the ref actually said that Scotty? (after the game). If the whistle blows, play stops, lol. Obviously the refs really do suck ass. And what's with the 2 shots on the T? (or was that what you mean by the "made up" call? The ref made up a foul to go with the whistle blow, then add an extra shot for the T?).

sounds like a tough game, crappy ref's but well done making a good game of it.

Nah T's are always 2 shots under FIBA Rules.

But yeah, this is why I'm not playing up there no more. The last few weeks have been rough as, and they continue to play "house rules".

I thought the game was a really game, I hate close games, but since we were down by so many, we did well to ALMOST win it.

Some of the other sides' guys are thinking of putting some of their players into another comp, so I might end up running with them (most of the guys on my/our side already play).

im a little confused....did they only have 3 on the court? and you lost? or am I reading it wrong?

either way bad luck we lost our final by 3 aswell....we were 9 down with 45 secs left I hit 2 consecutive 3's to bring us within 3 we got a turnover I had a look at a 3 to tie with 5 secs left but saw a mate open baseline corner threw him it....and he also missed we lost by 3....still kicking myself I didnt take the shot as I couldn't miss at the time...life goes on.

They finished with 3... I mentioned that they had people fouling out...
