Righto folks,
A quick pros and cons about peeling those old Finest cards. And also some opinions from those who have graded peeled or unpeeled cards?

I'm collecting the 99-00 finest dunk masters set. I'm trying to collect them unpeeled, but not being too choosy.
What I've noticed is most of the peeled cards grade very well (lots of 9.5). The unpeeled not so much as the surface grade is low. I am thinking of getting the whole set graded when I finish it. Anyone got unpeeled cards that have graded well??

I really like the idea of owning a card no one has touched, but then there's the aspect of part of the card being covered by the writing.
Eg...

Anyone else wanna share their thoughts on this??

I peeled a Kobe Finest rc last year. I wrote on the outside of the holder a note saying that I had only just removed the plastic then put straight into the semi-rigid holder.

It got 9.5's and 10's for everything except edges, which got a 7.5:( I have looked at the edges with a magnifying glass, and cannot see anything wrong whatsoever.

I think that it increases your grades for surface, but I think it also makes them look really hard at the edges because they assume you're there, continuously rubbing your thumb on the edge until the sticker catches.

I may be wrong, but I always thought the majority of collectors prefer the unpeeled finest over peeled ones. If you are in doubt I would probably just buy 2 and have a peeled one loose and get an unpeeled once graded, but I guess it depends on available funds and how much the card is worth. For example, I personally wouldn't peel any Jordan 90's refractors.

I've had better luck with PSA for unpeeled cards, or refractors in general then BGS. They tend to be a little more lenient on surface for grading

Cheers, for the thoughts guys.
Good to see a 9.5 with the peel on....

Ouch - makes you wonder what they look for sometimes.

Yeah can really afford to do both. Will start with unpeeled I think and then perhaps decide from there....

If you're not thinking of ever selling them off I vote for peeled. If all the ones you've bought have the protective layer on them they should look sensational once peeled. I hate looking at unpeeled dull refractors.

Cheers Nick. You have any Payton's graded unpeeled?
