Ummm think you are missing the point. The price of postage wasn't the issue, it's what you get for it! At least a bubble mailer! Maybe you should read the thread first...

For this reason i dont bid on items that dont include a postage description, as you know its gunna come in a white envelope!.

The issue isn't the cost!!!
It is the method used! If you pay $5.50, you expect a toploaders/sleeve and padded mailer!!

From Canada yeh?? how much would it cost to use the bubble envelope, i would assume more then 5.50 as it would become a parcel?? Also it has not been mentioned toploaders wernt used.

I think fuel costs about the same here is Australia. Costs me for 1 Litre about $1.50 so about $3.70/gallon, not that much cheaper than you. Our postage charges in Australia are a lot worse though compared to the US.

If you plan ahead, you could also pre-purchase your stamps, then all you need to do is to pop it into your local post box.

But I think the issue is still the way it was posted. It is easy just to put it into top loader and into a cut out bubble wrap and still fit it into that envelope, and it will still cost the same to post.

In Australia, anything your send that is less than 500gm and thinner than 2cm, is considered a letter not a parcel (just a tip to save on posting and also going into the PO to fill in customs form). So always try to limit the thickness of your package so it is still an envelope not a parcel.

Also another quick tip for postage internationally from Australia. If you have an envelope weighing 300gm, it is actually cheaper to send it as 2 packages at 125-250gm and another at 50-125gm, rather than one. Here is the breakdown of cost:
0-50gm $2.35
50-125gm $4.70
125-250gm $7.05
250-500gm $14.10

So if anything between 250 and 375gm it is cheaper to send as 2 packages rather than one.

Most of my single cards (including a base Exquisite) in a toploader and bubble mailer weigh in at about 43-49gm, just as a guide.

Send it the way you would like to receive it

To stop any potential bending of the card/s, I always like to put a decoy either side of the toploaders and put them in team bags...just gives that extra strength and protection. All that costs ~$3 (for upto 4 x 25pt cards) for me to send in a bubble mailer anywhere in australia and ~$5-6 international. Crazy how for the sake of $1-2 you would put it in a PWE and put yourself at risk of an unhappy customer, damaged cards or a paypal claim.

You guys think you have it tough...

Here in NZ, specifically for me since they know I've done a lot of posting, cards are considered 'collectables' and are therefore 'not easily replaced' and are therefore 'high risk items'.

They MUST go as a package ($7-8 to Aus, $11.50 to USA) and because of being high risk insurance is mandatory (flat rate of $10 unless sending via EMS in which case it's based on value).
So for me to send any card to the USA costs me $21.50.
Know how hard that makes it to sell anything?!!

Back to the matter at hand, his postage was what, $1.80C? So like $1.87US or so? $5.50 is therefore highway robbery and he's just another seller taking advantage of international buyers. The people on Blowout (who defended guru) would say that "he's covering his risk of losses by not sending registered, so is justified charging more" but that's BS. He's a ripoff, make it known.

The way I look at it is this and I have said this many times in the past:
1. I found something on Ebay that I like.
2. I find out how much postage the seller is charging.
3. I'll work out how much I want to pay for this item including postage.
4. Set my sniper to the max of my budget minus postage charges.
5. I win the item.
6. I pay immediately.
7. I get my item undamaged.
8. Leave positive feedback.

Before you bid, look at how much it will cost to post to you. Once you find out and decided to bid on the item then end of story about the shipping cost.

The only time I will whinge about white envelope is if I received the card damaged. As simple as that.

^ I get what your saying but I think your missing the point. If you pay 5-6 dollars worth of postage you expect it to be packaged a certain way. That's what your paying for. When it comes in a white envelope, you should expect to have paid a bit less in postAge. Wether your card arrived unharmed or not. Is beside the point. Maybe next time you wont be so lucky. And sellers need to know it is not cool inflating postage like this.

What I expect is for the item to get to me undamaged...

I paid $6-10 postage from the US many times and I can see from the stamps that it only cost them between $2-4 including the bubble mailer... Should I whinge about that as well? I shouldn't because I agreed to their shipping charges when I bid on their item.

I agree when sellers are claiming petrol expenses on their shipping and handling cost. Why, because for me to go to the post office, I will have to drive my car, too.

We are fortunate to have ebay/card forums these days. A lot of us would drive at least 50kms to get to a card shop now and imagine how much money we would spend on petrol???

Anyway, this issue has been raised many times here and I honestly think that its good to be brought up every now and then.

We will always have 2 different views about it I'm always willing to say my opinion about it.

PS: Ebay takes a 9 percent of postage charges (Ebay.com) and then they will take a bit more when the payment is made through paypal... I'd say, blame Ebay for the extra dollar or 2 that sellers are forced to charge the buyers.

Yep i completely see your side of it, and am some what of an agreement to it, but my number one issue, is not really the extra they Are charging for basically nothing, it's them charging that then putting the cards in a high risk situation to be damaged, and when there damaged that can often lead to conflicts with you and the buyer, and often the best case scenario is YOU have to be for return shipping to get. Refund, leaving you out of pocket all because they wanted to save a few on shipping and didn't supply a padded envelope.

I always know what the shipping cost I'm going to be charged with, in the past people have sometimes charged me over 10 dollars, I know they are making money on that, and it's a bit annoying but if I want the card bad enough I'll pay it. When it arrives properly packaged and protected ill let it go because atleast they have done the right thing there. Get my point?

I had one guy charge me $55 postage on a $5 painting from china. When I received it, I checked the cost and it was only $6. Needless to say I left a nice neg and PayPal claim. Within minutes I received an apology and admittance of using postage to cover loss of profits. I eventually got my money back! As far as I am concerned, that's considered to be fraud.

Bottom line. You don't want to get charge backs as a seller for damaged cards, then send them the right way. Charge accordingly.

hmmmm, factoring in fuel to postage costs had never considered this, soooo
i live about 25km from my po as i am in the country.
driving the benz like i stole it would get me about 30ltrs/100km
or driving the range rover about 45ltr/100
so postage on a single card hmmmmm $50

i try and save on feul and get my boys to walk down to post office and mail them......but it still cost me 4 bucks......they buy an ice cream each .......well i have to bribe them some how
