After what I consider a baseless accusation of being a lowballer I have to ask a question.... please answer honestly.
Is asking someone what their prices are on a card or group of cards, or best price, then when told, declining as it is out of my range still, lowballing?
Am I wrong to ask, just in case it IS an amount I can afford? Am I wrong to make an enquiry?
Please let me know, as I will have to adjust the way I do business on here if my interepretation has been wrong all along, as its never my intention to lowball. I like to play fair.
but if u know what the card is worth.. and you offer what you can only afford.. and it's way below it's worth.. I say why bother asking at all.. just wasting Internet data.. for eg.. card is worth $100 but u can only afford $20.. and you offer $20.. I'd consider that low balling.. because you know it's value and not many collectors are willing to lose that much. just my 2c

I don't offer. I ask what the price is. There is a difference I hate offering. I always push for a price, cause I do not want to lowball. I then decline if the price is out of my range I do no counter with a low offer.
I understand that.. but before I ask for a price.. I go on eBay and check completed listings and if I cant find the exact card/s.. I find similar cards. eg. same numbering/similar set.
and get an approximate price and if the approximate price is out of my price range. I don't bother asking because I'm sure the seller has also done their research.

Fair enough, Never thought to do that... will consider that. Still, some people sell at below ebay prices
Edited: And some ask for more, and sometimes that is why I have to decline... cause while I do not often check ebay myself, I talk to someone often who does and I always discuss potential deals with them, because I always used to get ripped off and pay above or trade above so now I discuss my deals with someone in the ebay know.
might be considered time wasting maybe, but not low-balling in my opinion. how can it be low-balling if you never tell the seller how much youre offering?!

I wish people would waste my time some more... and ask me or offer me lowball prices... lol you never know what will happen deal wise.... so I don't "intend" to waste peoples time... but if I don't ask I might miss out compeltely.
I normally start with, "hey I'm keen on this card, might be out of my reach but can I please have a price". People crying lowball really shit me. How hard is it to tell someone sorry that's not gonna cut it, especially a respected member like Wolves. I've sold cards way below market to some of these lowball cry babies and they don't seem to care about getting a good deal, they just don't want to give anyone a deal in return.
I am a lowballer and proud of it? Stuff you if you don't like it, if you can get more elsewhere then go get it simple, but if you sell it to me you won't have to deal with possible charge backs, ebay/paypal fees etc. I don't care if I offend, people need to take a concrete pill and harden up, its just a question, don't like the offer decline, simple.....
People always value what they have more than somebody that is interested, try buying a second hand car.

To answer your question, NO. Definitely not. After all, it's THEIR card, you have the right to ask them THEIR price.
What irks me in today's market, is someone will post a for sale thread with no prices, but when you ask "how much", they say "offer"... You don't walk into a supermarket and offer prices for stuff, why can't people put prices on their own cards?
What irks me even MORE, is when you say to yourself, fuck it, here's my offer and you give them an offer, they'll either then turn around and ask for more anyways, or simply won't acknowledge your offers' existance, and just be an ignorant fuck.
Seriously, people ARE in this "hobby" to make it a business, no doubt about it!
Ok, now I am at a computer I will give my true take on this:
If someone doesn't list prices in their thread, then any enquiries that they receive asking for a price could well be time wasters. but it is your own fault!
Now, if I have a card that sells for $100 on eBay, then someone messages me and asks for a price, I offer it to them for $80 and the person says "no thanks", then yes, I feel that is lowballing. You don't have to make an offer to be lowballing, if you turn down a price that is more than fair, then that is still lowballing because you are essentially saying that is too high for me. Either that, or you were never really planning to buy the card.
As far as people that do lowball?? Who cares!?? I do it sometimes too! So what??
Dave (Aussielaker) will testify to this too! He had a Derrick Rose auto FS last week. I was not really in the market for a Rose auto, but I always like to pick up tradebait to help me get PC cards of people who don't sell. Seeing as I am not particularly fussed on a Rose, I offer $200. I know that card should be able to get $250, but I am not wanting to pay full eBay for it. If I was, then I would have bought one off eBay.
So, Dave calls me a tightarse, but in a polite way coz that is the guy he is, so I increase my offer a bit to a figure we are both happy with.
We also need to look at the whole "value" argument.
If I have a card that recently sold on eBay for $300 then I list it on OzCards for $300, then I should EXPECT, at maximum, to get $270ish for that card on here. The buyer is doing me a favour by allowing me to avoid eBay fees, as well as reduce the risk of paypal claims/lost cards. But people here list their cards at full eBay and when any offer comes in lower, they get upset??
I have really enjoyed my collecting habits over the last few months because of one thing. I have stopped looking at ANY cards as being 'must have' cards. I used to get sucked into paying top dollar for a rare Kawhi or Blair because someone on eBay is greedy or whatever, but now, if I don't think a card is genuinely worth the price, then I don't want it! Simple!
By collecting HOF on card autos, the options are endless and I am never held for ransome because there is always another card to spend my money on, that way I never have to worry about getting in bidding wars for cards, or getting upset about missing a particular card!
Life is too short and this is a hobby, not a necessity!
