Having some computer problems atm...nothing virus related etc.
Its been near 3 yrs and its time for a complete wipe on the old hardrive and a reinstall of windows....
I have a guy that normally comes out but im having trouble getting in touch with him so i did a bit of searching and found the mob mentioned in the tital.
All was going well with them on the ph untill they told me they wanted $165 for 1 hour....:eek:

Im no cheapskate and wasnt expecting it to be $20...from memory the guy i used last time charged me just over a quarter that price..
I wasnt rude but just laughed and said damn...im looking for a job...train me up..:lol::lol::lol:

I do all of the computer realted repairs/training/upgrades etc in my family, and I can't stand it when ANYONE pays ANY computer repair guy.

Do you have the Windows install disc? Do you have somewhere (a second HDD) to put your files that you want to keep? That's all you need for a clean install.

Trust me when i say..i dont tamper with pcs...
Like anything weve done many times before im sure you think its easy....
I tryed once before and lets just say its didnt go well and i ended up getting some1 in anyway:lol:
Thought ide just save myself the frustration this time...:D

Fair enough...you make a valid point. I still can't stand how IT people charge so much when most of the time they barely know what the hell they are doing and cause more problems than they solve.

Anyway, I hope you get your setup sorted for a reasonable price!

Thanks for that....lucky for me i have 2 computers so i can still get on here...
Pity my scanner is set up on the other 1 tho..:(

If you know anyone who can do it for you just give them a six-pack and ask them to. Alternatively, if you want you could send me the details of exactly what you've got in terms of hardware and software and what files you need to keep etc and I'll give you a how-to.

Lol @ their rate too!

Thanks for the offer....ill see if the guy i used last time rigs me back today.
Richo would have done it for me but the poor swines flatout packing for his big move over east.
Hopefully i wont have to have a crack myself

no.1, it is pretty straight forward and doesnt need much knowledge, if anything it just needs time to finsih. when ur re-installing windows, thats probably the only small "hiccup" u may come across, but if all ur drivers download and install automatically, bud it should be a breeze. ur looking at between $50-$80 on average for what u want done to ur PC. $50 would be more some1 u know though. hope u get it sorted out, if u need any help too just give me a holla. cheers, no.2

Did a bit more stuffing around this morning and ive been able to get it back to something pretty reasonable.
Its still overdue for a wipe but at least its all working.
Turns out the latest update from windows in many cases stuffs up explorer.
Did a roll back and fiddled with my router settings.

Steve, im in a similar situation as yourself. Got a nasty error on the home Desktop the other day wont start up, and I would have no hesitation doing a fresh install and starting from scratch execpt that there are a lot of photos of the little guy....at least the last 6 months that havent been backed up. Thats my bad but god forbid I ever wipe them!

I tried repairing it myself to no avail so I called Geeks and they quoted the same price. Jims mowing also have a computer division which were quoting $110 but they never call you back.

Damn computers....

Cheers

Matt the best thign you can do is pull ou tthe HDD and put it in an external enclosure. Take it to a mates house, connect it via usb and copy the information.

Then format it and do a fresh install.

my advice is to purchase a new hard disk do your fresh build on that, and then put your current disk as a secondary slave HDD, you can then copy off the data onto the new disk. Reformat the slave and use it as a backup for the future.

Mines not quite that bad matt....luckly for me it was just the silly windows update...
Will have to wipe it in the near future tho:(

Sorry I couldn't help Steve :(
First time since this morning I have been able to check-in here @ OCT

To avoid losing photo's etc I have a removable hard-drive installed in one of those portable hard drive cases.
It simply plugs in via USB and I back up all my data.

This is what I would recommend once you get it up & running again :)
