Evening all, I am new here. My name is Euge and I am wondering why all the excitement about NBA cards? Of course I can see why, it was just a shock to learn how strong everything is going. Normally, I collect numismatics (coins and bank notes) but the market is quite slow at the moment, they're a real long term thing. Anyone heard of the 'Red-back coin'? It was awesome.

So I'm saying hello to the community, using my manners and introducing myself. Gee I just read the thread about the alleged Jordan card theft, naaaaasty!

I have spent the better part of this weekend trying to learn about modern/ish basketball cards. What does everyone think about my intention to try and purchase graded cards (PSA and BGS only) at 'reasonable' prices. Don't worry I understand the thrill of hunting and collecting, been collecting everything from river stones as a kid to toys and comic books as a teen. Now it's about the kids as well.

Or am I just going to keep card shops in business paying for ridiculously over-priced cards.

If I might, what's everyone's thoughts on two cards I have in mind...

1. 2002-03 Amare Stoudemire RC Auto Patch 1485/1999 graded 8.5 by PSA. I was thinking of offering AU$75 for purchase and postage from the US.

2. 2010-11 Panini R&S Evan Turner RC Auto Patch 1/10 ungraded. I was thinking of offering AU$180 for it with postage.

I just wanna let everyone know that Mr. Paparazzi has been more than kind offering help and information, sounds like a decent guy so THANKS Mr P.

Okay guys everyone have a good night, happy 4th of July to the US members, supertoad out.

Welcome Euge! Yes, the NBA card circle is strong once again, though it could die down again with the impending lockout. With your two cards, I'm no expert on card prices, but I don't really like the price you'll be paying for the Turner. He wasn't very good (or the Sixers didn't play as much as he would have liked) and the card shouldn't be costing that much.

Um not too sure. What I reckon is that the lockout, depending on how long it is, will definitely decrease card values as some people begin to lose interest. Also next year, the value of last year's rookies will continue to be strong as teams continue to progress with last year's draft class, which is much stronger than the 2011-12. You will seem guys like Turner and Wesley Johnson getting more minutes as teams persist with them.

Also I don't know about positive pressure. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of many of Panini's releases and I still prefer Topps and UD over them. I think many others on the forum would agree too.
