What do you guys think of fittlers possible return for the Auckland nines?
I think it is a great idea would love to see some more retired stars come back like johns locky Menzies to name a few.
When you think about it there is no difference with T20 cricket it allows some of the cricket greats to still play the game.
Please keep hate comments out of it :)

as much as i would love to see freddy back in nrl jumper, im with owen its quickly becoming a joke of a comp.

sharks to win it, and be debt free?

I think it cheapens the comp. if Freddie plays the message the NRL is sending is tht they have to pull legends out of retirement to make this comp work. We have enough quality players to make this a spectacle. Freddie last played in 2004, 10 years ago...how much faster has the game gotten since then? Add to that the fact that this is 9's and it will be even quicker.

I just think the Roosters are shooting themselves in the foot, their chances of winning it are out the window with a 42 year old in their side.

Don't think he'll be seeing too many minutes but even so, I think it's a good thing. It's probably best regarded as a pre-season hit out with an emphasis on entertainment more than anything else.

i dont think anyone will be seeing many minutes, think alot of people are forgetting that its 9 min halves.

I understand and respect all of your comments, so do all of you think the same way with the old stars of cricket coming back and playing T20?
Another question I will ask if it was a retired star from the team you support would you see it different and support the player?
The tournament is about having fun and putting on a show think of the ratings it will bring if other stars follow suite.

A non contact sport and a contact sport just cannot be compared. Most of the retired stars who have come back to play T-20 had not been gone any more than 4-5 years and had still been playing IPL. Maybe it will ramp up the ratings and if so great but I am not a fan. Perhaps instead they could put together a retired legends 9's side which plays a couple of exhibition matches as part of the tournament that are not part of the round robin comp.

I like your idea a lot.

As for Freddie, it is purely a promotional situation, so whether or not he plays at all or 1 minute, it is all about promoting the series.

An older bloke playing a faster version of the game....really!!! Smells like another Changa to me, but plenty of fans will tune in to see what he still has to offer.

No one is doubting how good Freddie is or was but that was ten years ago. The game is twice as quick as it was then and this is an even quicker version. I have a lot if respect for Fittler, one of the best number 6's ever but I think a 42 year old pulling on the boots for this cheapens the seriousness of the comp.
