Hi all,

New to collecting basketball cards. Just bought my first ever set of cards in the form of a hobby box.

Wanted to know how people generally keep their cards. I've been searching for basketball themed folders to hold them in but with no luck. Anyone know whether these exist?

If not, what do people usually do, and what would be the best way. Do you guys buy the empty binders and buy lots of sheets to add on to them (if so, where would I get some decently priced ones) or do you just buy those Ultra-Pro folders with 20 pages of 9 pockets (double sided) which go for $40 on eBay, and that seems a little pricey to me.

Just posting this to see what everyone's thoughts are on this.

It all depends on the collector. I used to house all of my base and low valued inserts in folders. I now have these in penny sleeves and top loaders with all of my higher $$$ cards in one touch holders. I did this as my wife was sick of seeing the folders laying in the cupboard. Now they are all in a big box in the garage.

I got all of my supplies from DACW or from Paula in Honolulu when I was there for a holiday however there are guys on eBay.com.au that sell supplies for a very reasonable price.

Steve, depending on where you are, you should be able to go to a comic store (phantomzone or Kings Comics) and get the ultra pro 3-ring sports card binders and the loose pages. You might also be able to get the larger cardboard storage boxes from there also. The binders you referred are actually termed as portfolios - $40 is way to pricey especially as i can get them from my local comic (when in stock) for $15. The comic shops should also stock the larger 2-piece plastic clear cases (200 and 250ct).

As to what goes in what ... really up to you, but here's my rule of thumb - if the set complete (with all rookies) is under $100 beckett or is too big to fit into a clear case, it goes into the cardboard box. If the combined value of the base set (veterans) with what ever SP's (serially numbered rookies and retired/legends) is over $100 and the set - with all inserts and parallels - it goes into a suitable sized 2-piece clear case. I have similar rule for low-numbered parallels as well as autos and Game-used - if over $100 it goes into a one-touch or screwdown. If the print run is 10 or under - ie, to rare to get a definitive price - it goes into a one touch or screwdown.

I use the 3-ring sports binders for my player collections. The portfolios are for any Game-used and auto's - not part of sets (ie, not rookies/legends) that are under $100. I use the 9 slot,10 page portfolios for my game-used cards, and the 4 slot, 10 page portfolios for my autograph cards.

Hope this helps.

If you want a cheap option, get a 3 ring binder from somewhere like staples or officeworks: (http://www.staples.com.au/main-catalogue-productdetail/sustainable-earth-by-staples-insert-binder-a4-3-d-ring-50mm-blue/37417804?feature=browse&feature_ident=ident:filing-binders-organisers/files-folders-binders) for about $5

They have a pocket on the front where you can put a picture or description of what's inside. I fill these with 9-pocket ultra pro sheets for my complete base sets and player collections.

I have some NBA folders which I sourced from the States, looking to sell them off for $20 dlvd. I have 5 of them available so let me know if interested and I can send some pics through.
