I have been surprised how much a premium the first, last or a player's jersey number seem to fetch. Also that sellers (mainly on ebay) usually list them, nonsensically, as 1/1.

I guess if i was getting a card of anyone, it'd be cool to have it as the first, last or that players jersey number and perhaps would pay 1% more to get that over one of the other numbers - but some sales can be over 50% more compared to other sales. It's quite staggering.

It might make sense if the cards are more investment, so you can try to pull the same thing yourself later (seems a lot of people must enjoy that), but if it's in a PC why would you pay a such a high premium for that?

What's worse is when a card is relatively scarce in itself, but gets this additional markup/price expectation if the serial number miraculously happens to have some astrological meaning, which you're not interested in.

I know what u mean
I bought an /25 NT Bogut for about $5 or $6 but the 12/25 sold for I think about $25 - $28

I can kind of understand the jersey # relevance for collectors since as there's multiple collectors of the same guy every wants to have that one card that's different and stands out so prices will always be more but the first & last serial numbers going for more bewilders me.

Off topic but I've noticed whilst going through my Payton and Augustin collections I have a heap of MJ jersey #'d haha

I understand the jersey #'s for sure. I like the idea of my card matching his jersey number..

but the 1st one, I can only think maybe set collectors may want all the same numbering in the set, would be cool to have a whole set of cards that have all the exact same numbering..

I think it adds another element of collectability which is fun for some people. I look it as a bonus, but don't necessarily chase a certain numbering hard out. The good thing for my is Aminu is now #0, which means no jersey numbered cards unless I go for #1, his college number, or #3, his rookie year number.

i just barfed when i saw the ending price on this  I sold my 10-11 Base 35/99 and 1/1 for less than that

the 99/99 RPAs are selling about 3x more than the regular. A couple guys in the US love that numbering and a dozen vultures trying to extort them - which makes for higher than usual prices

Like Brent I personally love jersey numbered also

Personally i dont give a crap if its the first or last number. I dont even care if its a jersey number (yes its cool) but not going to pay $50 extra because it is.

I dont think Americans care about numbering, there has been times i have got jersey number stuff for nothing of decent players

I love the Jersey Numbered stuff personally. It's a personal taste and i'm willing to pay a bit more to get it.

Love jersey numbered cards. First and last mean nothing to me. What I really can't understand is the NRL collectors that pay extra for a "low numbered" card.

I love the Jersey numbered stuff!:whistle::whistle:
If it didn't cost too much extra, getting the book ends (i.e. 1/100 and 100/100) of a numbered card would be sweet too.
I wouldn't pay ridiculous prices for any of it but a small premium yes

its funny that this topic came up....i was just going through my k love card and as much i hate to admit it i would pay a few extra$$ to land first/last of k love number on back of card , its more fun for the chase, =D>

Some interesting views being thrown around and a few of them are pretty hilarious.

There is no question that there is more desire among collectors to get the jersey numbered version of a card. It makes me laugh when people say that there is no difference but you wont find them selling the jersey numbered cards that they own for regular prices :cautious:

I sold a Jersey numbered David Robinson 11/12 Retro PMG red 050/150 for a local collector. Average price of 150usd and in the end their were 3 US collectors that all offered above 600usd for it. Eventually selling for $750usd before the fees were removed.

One thing I find annoying is when someone tries to promote a card as jersey numbered because it is numbered to a jersey number that they used to wear. A bit like a new Kobe being number 008.... Move along you fool, his jersey number is 24 and not 8

Paying a premium for jersey numbered cards is something I have had to do and will continue to do so. People are not going to give the good stuff away cheap
