So, I bought a card from a US seller who is using the eBay Global Shipping/Pitney Bowes cr@p.
Long story short, the delivery date from the start has been Friday 25th.
I am following the tracking and over the weekend it arrived in WA. This morning it states it is at the local FedEx facility, which happens to be about 2 minutes drive from my house.
Now, for example, when I order stuff from Eastbay and it is delivered by UPS, if it arrives early, they change the date and delivery it early.
The delivery date didn't change, so I emailed FedEx to ask about it, so I could make sure someone is home to sign for it. This is the reply I got.
Dear David,
Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
Please be informed that your package is committed for delivery on Friday, July 25th and we regret not being able to send this out any earlier. However since this is an eBay/Pitney Bowes packages shipped under Economy service, packages are arranged and staged according to its delivery date.
Should you require further/urgent assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service hotline at 132610.
I do like tho that they are firm on their estimated delivery dates, and I like that you can rely on it arriving when they advise, but in this case it's stupid to know it's just going to sit their until that date.

Yep, I agree, that part is good, but why not just email the addressee stating it will be delivered 1/2/3/4 days early? That is what UPS does when I order stuff from Eastbay.
I always wonder why these places don't have the ability to just let someone come in and sign for it and pick it up. I would have been more than happy to do that and then it saves them having to deliver it.
