So I don't recieve many cards these days because i'm a tight arse. But my last deal was from a member in the US. She has recieved my cards fine, and even though I sent mine to her a week later, I haven't recieved anything. This is a member I trust and have had no problems with.
Last time i recieved a package at my home, it was up against the wall by the front door as it was rather large. The latest package I was due is smaller and should fit in the letter box.
So the other day my wife was at home and saw the postie put our mail ON TOP of the mailbox. Didn't try to fit it in. Just left it on top out in plain sight. Our block slopes down towards the house so the mailbox is at the top of the drive in the open. Then today she arrives home and the mail is BESIDE the mailbox on the grass!
It wouldn't have fit in the box, but shouldn't they have left it by the door or tried to get it into the newspaper cylinder?
Now i have a package missing and I fear that the postie hasn't tried to put it in the box or down by the door, but just left it out in the open and it's gone.
Is there any Duty of Care from Australia Post in this situation? I would love a bigger mailbox but I just can't afford it atm. I buy a fair bit off eBay, not only cards but dolls for my wife, now I am paranoid about getting anything sent here.
What service should we ask OS sellers for if we want to go to the PO to pick things up? Can they send "registered" overseas? I don't need a PO box...
Just a bit cranky I *may* have lost my last mailday for a long time...
Australia Post:
1. Don't care.
2. Use asthmatic mules (It's quicker to buy something from Hong Kong than Sydney for me once postage time is factored in!)
Like most posties, it's a case of "too hard" I have had 7 items not show up in the past 6 months, one or two maybe from a dishonest seller, but after being told from a member here who works for Australia post that they can "mark" packages a certain way to ensure their arrival (A secret employee code if you will) I'm beginning to think the entire postal system is as corrupt as the government!
Al has had this same problem with our postie....What Al did was wait until the post lady came along and he had a word to her about leaving mail on top of the mailbox and if it doesnt fit that she is to fill out a Parcel pickup slip and leave that otherwise he said to her that if any of my mail goes missing he will hold her responsible. She has never done that again ..she always leaves a slip now.
yep they should definitely not do it, complain to the post office which they're based out of. they have a policy which addresses what to do if it won't fit in the mailbox, they also have a duty under state and federal legislation to carry out their services with due care or skill.
and you can register overseas in some cases, but not all.
I have complete trust in the NZ post. I once had a high end KG card coming from the states. When it arrived I noticed the STREET address was missing from the package. It just had my name, my suburb, city and country and they found me!!!!!
I sent a complain email yesterday and haven't heard anything. Will follow up with a call today.
They definitely didn't knock because my wife was on the couch and can see the letterbox and he just put my RACQ insurance documentation on the letterbox. Then yesterday the envelope containing my new job offer letter was just on the grass!
Thanks for the advice guys. Will definitely be chasing them up.
Mark.
we had to put through 3 complaints to Australia Post awhile back to get the postie to stop leaving parcels on our doorstep when we're not home. They were sitting there for up to 7 hrs while we were at work, and we live in units (people walking past all the time). It finally worked, but too well, she now doesn't knock at all, so if we are home at 8 when she comes, we have to wait until 2 to be able to pick it up.
I remember a few years back I bought around 100 Walker's from a huge collection in Germany, I'd been paying the guy in installments for around 6 months! He sent registered with a signature and ID required and sure enough the box of cards was left inside my mailbox. I was almost going to file I claim with Australia Post as registered mail has a $100 gaurantee of delivery.

HOWEVER. They where on the grass, 2 meters away from the letter box. This is an A4 padded envelope from OS. JUST LYING ON THE GRASS!!!!!
My wife was home ALL day. She had the front door open ALL DAY. No one knocked and she didn't even hear them. There was junk mail in the mail box, but when I got home at 6 PM there it was. 2 METERS from the mailbox already getting damp with dew. GOOD THING IT WASN'T RAINING!!!
Man I am pissed. I'm trying to call them now. Thats 3 packages that have been left out. Tried calling last night but was half an hour late.
man you have an idiot for a postie. if the mail doesnt fit in my mailbox, he always knocks on my door. but i leave the back of the mailbox open, so he just puts all the packages in through that way.
keep letting us know, that postie should get fired!
Well after I posted that post this morning, I called Australia post and asked for someone to abuse (I actually said, "put me through to someone i can abuse") and nice lady called Michelle listened to my story and agreed that that should not have happened and that it was a security risk and they should be knocking on doors or at the VERY least, store it on the porch next to the door in a SECURE LOCATION. So i got a dispute number and apparently they are chasing it up with the Creastmead office where the posties leave from...
There can't be any resolution because it has already happened, but if it happens again...by jimminies they'll be getting a right rogering.
