Not sure if you guys heard about this but what a disgrace Pakistan are for not coming back out after tea ! They got what they deserved no matter if they had ball tampered or not !!!What do you guys think ?

yeah, its poor form, especially for the fans who payed good money. but even ex england captain nassar hussein is on the paki's side and reckons he would have done the same thing.

as far as i know, umpire who called ball tampering (darrel hair) has not offered any proof so far, so i can understand why pakisatn are pissed off.

I dont necessarily think it's a disgrace for Pakistan to refuse to come out.
An allegation of ball tampering is very serious.
The ball was 55 overs old.
I would have thought that after 55 overs the ball would be very scuffed up, and that it would be hard to demonstrate that the Ball had been tampered with.
But we arent privy to conversations between Umpire Hair and the Pakistani team. Pakistan has raised issues about Umpire hair before. I suspect they have no confidence in him. We just dont know what happened. I hope we find out.
I dont agree with Pakistan not coming back onto the field but I can understand it. Sometimes you have to make a stand when there is a big issue on the line.

Well... until we get prove of the tempering (which I believe will be easy considering there are about 100 cameras in the ground....) i think the pakis are hard done by.... the allegation is basically saying they cheated.... & considering they were about to win the match, staying in the sheds is very drastic...

as wasim akram puts its nicely after the ashes last year... when we (pakistan) get reverse swing its ball tempering & when the poms do it, its skill...

after this incident.. i dont think Hair will be allowed anywhere on the subcontient....

Good comments Marty & Locky but my point is that even if the umpire was wrong it doesn't mean you protest against the decision by not returning to the field !!! He (the umpire) would have been disciplined by the umpires pannel (If wrong).....next teams will refuse to return becasue they don't agree with the "out" decisions.......Oh that's right - Sri Lanka have already done that !!!

any "out" decision is a bit diff to ball tempering.... esp when the pakis is a bit sensitive abt the subject previously.

I don't agree with that, it is still a decision made by the person in charge - The Umpire ! At the end of the day if Hair had been wrong he would have been disciplined......it is not up to the Paki's to take it into their own hands (IMHO).

If I was bowling and theUmpire told me he was reporting me for ball tampering
AND
I didnt do it
AND
I gave him a reasonable explanation
AND
He refused it and said I was a cheat
THEN
I would probably consider walking off!

Im not saying that's what happened here, but it really is a very serious allegation to make

Like I said, it's not up to the PROFESSIONAL Pakistan Team to take it into their own hands !

If you had done it Locky there wouldn't have been 1000's of people who had paid to come and watch a match !

Pakistan just like Sri Lanka before them think they are bigger than the game, to walk off and not come back on is a disgrace ! (IMHO).

My P.O.V on the matter is pretty much along the lines of the other guys here who have pretty much said IF ball tampering can be PROVED, stuff em, but if not then good on them for standing up for themselves. Add to this the history between Hair and sub-continent teams, and I can easily see the Pakis thinking they're getting a raw deal... I'm still pissed about his handling of the "Murali" affair, coming out and calling him a cheat and saying he'd no-ball him as soon as he came to the crease cos he "knew" he was a chucker. I mean, GROW UP, HAIR! Same happened with Shoiab as well. And did you see the Australian Story thing on it tonight? All the ex-Aussies getting all righteous saying no matter whether the decision is right or wrong, just play the game... I think they'd be singing a dfferent tune if it was the Aussies accused of ball-tampering... With regard to Hair, I just think on past form, it looks like he's out to get sub-continent teams, and will be hard to prove otherwise to a lot of people...

Murali IS a chucker, they had to ammend the law (how much your arm can bend) just so he was legal ! But I digress !

The Paki's shouldn't have walked and deserved the forfeit they received but I do your points guys.......professional cricket just isn't the place to make it !

Some more food for thought, this from the latest news:

But ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said Pakistan could face further charges after refusing to take to the field in London.

"The umpires are meeting this morning to consider whether there should be any further charges in relation to the refusal by Pakistan to take the field that resulted in the forfeit of the match," Speed told BBC Radio.

"It may be that there is more than one charge."

Somehow the view of "The Paki's didn't do anything wrong" sure doesn't seem correct it when they could be facing another charge !

and some more food for thought:

The forfeit, which rescued the home country from a difficult match position, cost England cricket authorities around $A1 million in refunds and lost ticket sales.

i 100% agree with you Richo (first time for everything ;) ) - They deserved the forfeit, it was an absolute disgrace they didnt return, they were acting like spoilt children... "he said i did this so im not playing" what a joke...if u dont like the umpires decision then protest properly, lodge a complaint withthe match referee, dont act like a bunch of spoilt brat children

Inzamum should be suspended and stripped of his captaincy

I'm 50/50 on this but the way Hair carries himself - it doesn't surprise me - The thing that gets my goat was when the Pakis had gotten over their little dummy spit and came back out Hair and the jr umpire refused to restart the game - now THAT is ridiculous - for the sake of the 20000 or how many were there to not go back out once the pakis had gone out shows u how important Hair thinks he is - for the sake of the spectators the umps shoulda just restarted the game and then sorted out discipline when the pakis had won....

i think that there is some rule whereby if the ump has knocked off the bails to signify the end of play, then play cannot be continued, no matter what. i think thats what happened here, hair had knocked off the bails just before the pakis ran back on the pitch, so i dont think he had a choice. could be wrong but i think thats what happened.

the thing that annoys me the most is how the pakis have reacted afterwards. youve got imran kahn saying shit like "it is a grave insult to our people and our honour and pride" and blah blah blah, they say hair is racist and is a "mini-hitler"...what bullshit. he had the balls to make a call that he thought was right, no matter the consequences. and he would have known the consequences since he went through all this shit before when he NB'd murali, getting death threats and such. pakistan should have appealed post match, not forfeit the test.

One thing that bewildered me though was the batsmen being allowed to pick the ball after the umpires decided that the other one had been tampered with. I always thought the replacement ball was selected by the umpires alone or in conjunction with the fielding team??"

Whoo Hoo at least someone does :D

Side note - LJandKG, I am a qualified umpire so I can tell you once the bails are removed to end play that's it ! It's in the rules, that is why play could not resume when the paki's decided to come out.
