eBay sellers and PAYPAL..........a question...

Pls correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that all sellers on eBay.com.au are required to offer PAYPAL as a payment option unless the item falls into one of the exclusion categories for PAYPAL. What is everyone's understanding on this.

I asked a seller this a while ago, I think they said they were exempt as they had a physical shop/business or something. Not sure though

You are correct Dave. All sellers are required to offer paypal.

As far as i am aware ALL sellers must offer paypal how else would ebay/paypal screw us?

i assumed the same as u dave. i remember trying to sell something a couple of years ago and i didnt offer paypal so they wouldnt let me list it. maybe the only way of getting around it is by offering merchant account (credit card)

yeah pretty much correct, eBay can cancel your item if you for instance say anything negative about paypal or mention paypal fees in your item description, which happened to me a few years ago...

Yeah merchant credit card is what I was told:

Because we are an actual business and have a shop front we can offer Merchant Credit Card facilities.

I confirmed with eBay that unless you have a listing in an excluded category then sellers MUST offer PAYPAL

Well I awoke this morning to find an email from the seller telling me they can send me a PAYPAL invoice but it will include a 6% surcharge for using PAYPAL..........last time I deal with this guy.

Well sportsfans............might I suggest you shy away from onlinecoinslismore as an eBay seller. To clarify, I bought 3 one touch holders, the listing did not specify that the seller did ir DID NOT accept PAYPAL. Bought the items and during checkout found they did not accept PAYPAL. After going back and forward with the seller they agreed to send me a PAYPAL invoice not for the 19.50 the items + Registered post cost but for 20.65. I complained to eBay about this matter and they are taking it up with the seller but here is the rub........eBay whilst accepting the complaint indicated the seller was avoiding their PAYPAL responsibilities by avoiding fees which is a serious matter and I should report the matter to PAYPAL (Remember, I am actually talking to someone on the phone here). So, I rang PAYPAL to complain about the sellers activities, PAYPAL responded they have nothing to do with the purchase on eBay they just manage the transaction.............so, if an items costs 19.50 thru checkout on eBay and the seller sends an invoice off eBay but thru PAYPAL they can set the price to whatever they want to cover whatever fees they think they may incur and there is nothing PAYPAL will do about it...............FRACKIN SUCKS..........in my opinion, just one more reason to dislike eBay and PAYPAL.

One thing for sure is this seller was get some fantastic NEGATIVE feedback from me.......................hehehehee

you could always come and visit him in person. he runs a business here called hinterland IT, only had one dealing with him but he seemed a bit funny. sorry to hear about it dave, but up here we're that far away from the governing bodies, people just tend to make it up as they go along, they definitely need to be sorted out for non-disclosure

That sounds dodgy to me. I make sure to stipulate that I only accept paypal, as it's the easiest way I find. He probably want's to avoid paypal so he can't have someone claim a refund from him.

Hit him where it hurts mate! Too bad we can't hit ebay or paypal where it hurts without hurting our collecting too!
