eBay postage thieves!

Ahhhhhhhh I just got an awesome card sent to me (shall post it in mailday in a little bit ) but I paid $15.50US for International Registered mail and insurence to $200, and it showed up today in a bubble mailer with a regular airmail $0.90 label on it and written on the customs form was "$15.00" as a value of the thing so it wasn;t even insured!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WTF!!! I have sent an e-mail to him requesting a cool $12.50US refund or I am going to give my very first negative to someone!!

And new fuel to the fire, these rate changes. Regular airmail has changed from $0.84 to $0.90 WOW. What do the sellers do? Or at least the one I am dealing with for a separate auction to the one above, add $1.00...Sheesh.

That is terrible. You asked for insurance, and the f**ker doesnt do it and simply sends it normally.

I'd be figuring out what you can do in the way of getting a refund or something via eBay, make the bastard pay!

Seems to be very common with American sellers, usually I email them and ask them to explain the difference and/or offer a refund of it via paypal, if that don't work, well I don't give a rats about feedback so I neg the bastard!

Well this is the first time this has happened to me in this way. I have been overcharged before a little, only a little, and they came straight back with small refunds which was cool. We'll see what this blatant disreguard for anything comes back with

Make sure you keep the envelope and make a complaint to ebay about it.. That is not on and I hate it when people do that

Good luck with ebay - I had the same thing happen to me and I contacted them about it - they basically said - u bid on the card agreeing the shipping and u have to cop it - I totally agree with u though - it blows!! Would be interested to hear what happens.

it happens all the time... charged me $12 and sent me with baisc usps mail costing 2.xx by weighting.. and they won't care much since they have tens of tousands of feedbacks already.. one wouldn't hurt for them..

the best u can do is, avoid the seller next time..

This is a bit different to the normal case of overcharging on postage, as you paid for insured post and got normal post. Therefore even ebay should be able to do something...effectively it has been sent 'not as described'.

Please don't blame Americans!
We do not capitalize on overseas trades, or at least not all of us!
One of the main things in a trade like this though, is the fact that you have to place a value on the item, which is posted visibly and a lot of items are dissappearing faster these days due to theft in the post office. Insurance is one of the best avenues when you are dealing overseas.
I know it wasn't any of my business, I just felt like defending myself, as an American, and I know you are angry, but it happens here also against our own.

Hey Hey, dude I never mentioned Americans! I said in general and purely that. It just so happened that yes this person was from America, but read my post. Other than mentioning '$US', no mention of Americans!
And yes I did ask for insurance and was told it was going to happen. I understand why the person put $15 instead of $180 if they weren't going to register or insure, but that's just the point, I asked for both!

Speaking of postage rates on eBay (even if it was three weeks ago), what do people think about buyers who don't advertise that they'll combine postage? Do they have an obligation to do so?

Like, this guy recently had a bunch of good cards up cheap, but he didn't reply to an email about combined postage. I bid on 10+ cards anyway - which may have been a bit silly - anticipating that considering I won 10+ cards, he'd do combined postage. But the invoice comes back with the full postage price for each card. Which is a fair bit -- more than the some of the cards!

Am I in the wrong for expecting him to combine postage because he didn't advertise that he would? Or should local sellers have to charge three-four dollars (at the most) for shipping? He lives in the same city as me, after all, and cards aren't big.

Sorry mate but we MUST because 99% of the time it is the US sellers who are doing it !
You even admit it happens a lot in the US (against your own), well this whole insurance thing doesn't happen here in Australia, if you pay for registered 99% of the time you get registered ! Nothing against you mate but if you read all our complaints (here) about postage rip offs you will find most of them are about US sellers

Nenjabin - Sorry to read about you being ripped off - All I can suggest is to have a selling eBay ID and a buying eBay ID so when stuff like this happens you can neg the P***k and not worry about the return neg as it's just your buying ID that will cop it....leaving your selling ID free of all the BS Hope you Neg him good & propper !!!

Not really. The point is that they're not making a profit from over-charging on postage, so maybe they won't do it in the future.

how about $45 us to have a piece of electronic equipment sent here that's no bigger than a calculator? the product was already $145 us to buy.. though i can send a ps3 to america/canada at $35 aus via airmail.. please explain?
