So it didn't contain a GU or Auto and it actually looked like a nice insert? Now that you mention it I recall seeing some "fire" type cards that looked alright, but the jury was still out till I saw a real one and what finish they used and how rare they were. Is that the one you are talking about?
It's all about $$ for the card companies, if u can sell to ur customers"4 autos in every pack" etc etc then they are going to buy. It would be hard going back to boxes that only produce maybe 1 good card in a box when they now expect so much. I guess this also allows them to charge $200-500 a box too.

Yeah it is all about the $$$. Look at how excited people were about Fleer retro bringing back 90's inserts (people are just p*ssed it keeps getting delayed).
If they can bring out a rare and well designed set I'm sure they will still sell.
I think they are laughing though because Panini are putting out single packs boxes for $100+.
I would start box busting if the 90s insert design came back. Like all have said hen u get 1 auto per box and it's of a crap player it must be hard to keep spending that money. 100% agree with making the inserts rarer and of top players
Great thread
Personally I wish they would just leave the original inserts alone and find something new. If you want the original inserts go and find one. If its about the prices of boxes and rarity of inserts then make a cheaper box with rare NEW inserts. I hope it does not impact the price of original inserts as I'm sure people have spent a lot of money on them!!

I agree, I don't really love even that Fleer Retro is copying off the old designs. They should keep the names (Noyz Boyz, Scoring Kings etc), make the cards rarer, add a new design and then make the checklist just the TOP 20 guys in the League. But with pretty much any and every player being collected these days I guess they can make a checklist involving everyone to keep all happy.
To me it's not very clear cut how rare cards are. They all seem to numbered /100 or less. It does'nt really mean much.
I'm still waiting for that killer card set that I just HAVE TO HAVE. Panini Preffered Silhouettes have been the best thing they've brought out along with the Nat treasures logoman.

Holy crap! Watching some older 90s Barkley cards, and there's a 96-97 Fleer Thrill Seekers, currently sitting on $35! I don't have one unfortunately, and at that rate, I might just buy a box or tow, at least take out the sets while I'm at it, lol. I remember pulling a Shareef Abdur Rahim one, but never a Barkley!
Sorry, just had to share that.
Yeah I'd love to see a return of inserts. I think the times have changed on quality variations, etc, so we may never see them actually return, but perhaps they (Panini) can start trying to re-introduce them again.
I liked the idea on that Kobe card, the Black Mamba one, selling around $135ea! Yeah, they're rare as hens teeth, AND the print runs are not actually stamped.
